English as a Foreign Language Tutoring with a Cultural Focus

I provide individualized English language tutoring for students, adults and business professionals. As a native English speaker, I can provide insight into natural and correct English usage as well as American culture. I have TEFL certification, as well as teaching and tutoring experience, and thus can adapt lessons to fit a range of skill levels and language learning goals. As an avid language learner who speaks four languages and is in the process of learning a fifth (Turkish), I am fully aware of the obstacles that face language learners and can help students overcome them. While lessons are primarily focused on improving student's speaking and comprehension skills, regular focus on reading and writing exercises can be included to assist learners who encounter written English in their jobs or studies. Lastly, lessons can include a focus on English language resources such as literature, music and film, especially if learners are looking to expand their knowledge of the English speaking world.

من أنا؟

My passion for language teaching comes from my passion for language learning--I know the doors that open in your mind and in your world when you learn a new language, and I want to help other people open those doors. I see language learning as an act of cultural exchange, where in learning to say new words you also learn a different way to see the world and connect with others. The lessons I offer are highly personalizable and content is dependent on the goals of the individual learner, but my view is that you can learn as much if not more from a favorite book or popular song than from dry textbooks and worksheets. I aim therefore to tap into the learner's interests and hobbies to help them learn English in a context that is wholly relevant to their world and dreams.
