This is a class tailored to *your* needs, depending on your concrete situation, whether it is:

1) Writing an essay or academic paper for a class (in the Humanities, History, Political Science, Philosophy, English or World Literature) or college/university application
2) Preparing a presentation in any of the above subjects
3) Translating a work from Turkish to English, whether in an academic or professional setting
4) Writing a collection of essays, memoir, or a book
5) A corporate letter or presentation, whether internally or for a sponsor/investor

Persuasive, effective, and powerful use of language is crucial in any field of study or profession. What we'll hone in on for your work includes: vocabulary and diction, clarity in presentation of argument, style, research methods, and to-the-point communication of core ideas and proposals.

Ultimately, class material will be selected—or brought in by you, in the case of help on project-based preparation—to meet your needs.

For an extended course, additional material can include work from some of the strongest essayists (from Amin Maalouf to James Baldwin), writers on craft (from Stephen King to Orhan Pamuk), exemplary academic pieces, as well as video and slide presentations from leading businessmen (Steve Jobs to Larry Page),and companies (Airbnb and Sequoia Capital).

Über mich
I am a reviewer, novelist, and poet whose work has appeared in over a dozen journals, magazines, and literary festivals—and been nominated or a finalist for 3 awards, including the Pushcart and Omnidawn Chapbook Prize.

I have worked on hundreds of translations, as well as dozens of presentations to corporate sponsors and grant applications for the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV). I've also taught English at Intermediate and Advanced levels to all age groups, from elementary to college students to young professionals aged 18 to 60.

I founded the 2nd Creative Writing Program for ELLs at the Brooklyn Public Library in 2016 (the only one of its kind in NYC), and have been offering mentorship and editorial skills—from manuscript counseling to graduate school applications—through nonprofit organization Brooklyn Poets, since 2018. (Any further information about me is available in a CV upon request.)
