I have lots of experience working with children and teens as well as adults of all ages and professionals. I work with complete beginners (A0-A1) all the way to mastery (C1-C2).

I also offer tutoring and school support classes.

About Me

I have been teaching the English and French languages for the last 20 years. Being born and raised near Toulon, in the Southeastern part of France, French is my native language. In middle school, I was introduced to my first foreign language (English) and it was very hard for me as the methods used by my teachers (memorization and repetition) did not work for me. When I was 17 years old and about to enter my last year of high school, my English teacher recommended that I study abroad in an English-speaking country for a few months. My parents agreed and I was sent to the USA as an exchange student for one year.

Being completely immersed from day-one in English was very difficult but it worked very well. I started improving steadily and rapidly, and I returned to France completely bilingual. After graduating from France with a baccalauréat degree majoring in French and English, I returned to the United States to attend college, where I majored in English. There I met my husband, started a family and ended up living in the US for 15 years, continuing to improve my knowledge and grasp of the English language, and finally achieving the fluency of a native speaker.

During my 15 years of living on the West coast of the USA, I taught English and French to a variety of students: preschoolers, school-age children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. My experience teaching professional/corporate as well as casual French and English courses has allowed me to successfully mentor and coach people starting from different levels and with personal goals.

My own experience in the USA working in different fields (education, marketing, sales, medical, non-profit, government…) helps me give my students practical advice on navigating their professional world successfully despite not being an English (or French) native speaker.

Since moving back to Europe, I have obtained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate, and I’ve been teaching at a language school in Amsterdam. My experience has also included helping students prepare for English and French eindexamen (VWO, HAVO, etc…) and coaching students in preparation for their admission essays and interviews to enter higher-education institutions (hotel school, masters programs abroad, etc…). These last few years, I have also been teaching English on-location for NGOs and financial institutions. I have also been tasked with coaching HR Coordinators, Executive Assistants, EMEA Sales Directors, government employees, teachers, and helping public speakers to prepare for presentations, conferences, YouTube broadcasts, etc.

I’ve also helped prepare employees being relocated abroad (for example, to France and to Belgium).

My method has proven results: several of my professional students were promoted, the relocations went smoothly, and many of my school-age students passed their exams and/or were accepted into their chosen schools. The efficiency of my method revolves around a total-immersion approach from the very first lesson. With me, the English class will be taught in English and French class will be taught in French, no matter the level from which you are starting. We will work together to create an understanding and confidence in using your target language, whether for professional or casual uses. My lessons cover language (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms, etc…) as well as an introduction to culture along with some practical tips.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.

Learning is easy, but unlearning bad habits is extremely difficult. This makes it all the more important to learn the right reflexes as early as possible.
