This course uses the piano as an instrument to explore music. How does one get children to think about music, harmony, melody ? Each session proposes learn-by-doing activities to identify and build on musical preferences and skills. These "hands on" awareness activities allow the participants to discover, play and even compose their first simple melody with chords. Music can be enjoyable, rewarding, emotional and personal. Learning Objectives: - identify the names and play the notes of the piano, left hand and right hand, apart and together - play a melody on the piano with one or two hands in the key of C - make their own simple one handed melody in C - begin to understand musical notation by writing their own melody - understand the relationship between musical notation and playing the notes on the piano - identify keys, play their scales by ear and understand how the keys and their scales are made, their names and structure - play the basic chords of 5 different keys; what sounds good to the participant, what does not. What makes something sound good ? - add 3 chords to their melody in the key of C - write the 3 chords and the melody using musical notation Personalized learning objectives can be established following the initial sessions.
