Fun Phonics: Supporting Unlocking the World of Reading

Decoding is a key skill that can unlock many opportunities, however the English language can be challenging to acquire.
Through using proven teaching methods I am able to develop phonics skills to develop proficient, confident readers. Supporting pupils to successfully pass screeners or pupils with suspected or diagnosis of dyslexia to develop their reading skills to support them in accessing more opportunities in the world.
I am a qualified teacher obtaining a BSc in Psychology from UCL and PGCE in Science from Canterbury Christ Church with over 15 years of experience working with young people. I am a passionate teacher, who enjoys supporting individuals learn and grow. In addition to this I am a qualified and practicing SENDCo, which requires the wider leadership and implementation of adapting teaching techniques to support individual's learners needs and development of skills to ensure progress.

I am a qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator, with a PGCE in Science and over 10 years of experience tutoring and teaching individuals between the ages of 4 and 21. When I was completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology at UCL, I started tutoring and became sold on teaching: supporting people to develop skills and acquire knowledge; igniting interest and open doors to opportunities are just some of the factors driving my love of teaching.
Creating equity through inclusion is at the heart of my practice, working with individuals to improve and secure their foundational skills acting as a building block for them to overcome hurdles, grow their understanding and confidence as well as access opportunities opportunities throughout their lives. This technique has allowed pupils I work with to go from obtaining U's to achieving a grade 4/5 or stretching pupils who were achieving grades 4/5 to 7's, 8's and 9's.
Whilst outcomes are important relationships are key to this success to allow learning to be fun and engaging, which allows individuals to truly thrive. I love learning! And love igniting that passion in others; I am a firm believer that learning changes lives because learning is for life. The capacity to learn is the superpower we all share. Reframing perspectives and offering new narratives whether it is in relation to a poem, scientific theory or maths equation allows people to unlock their superpower and succeed.

I completed my undergraduate degree at UCL and then went on to a PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church, before completing the National Award for SEN Co-ordination at Middlesex University

Literacy and Numeracy skills can be challenging for pupils to acquire, whether this is decoding/ spelling for pupils with Dyslexia; comprehending aspects of language for pupils with Autism or maths related anxiety for pupils suffering with poor academic self-esteem, these sessions will improve the necessary skills to build a strong foundation and supporting progress in academia and development of other skills needed on a daily basis.

Skills can be developed through honing in on interests and making learning relatable to real-life incorporating games and quizzes to not only improve literacy and numeracy but working, visual and auditory memory skills as well as supporting metacognitive skills (independence and organisation) Focussing on developing skills with high repetition and low stakes testing to increase ability and confidence.
