I offer structured, technique-driven online lessons for students who want more than just chord charts. Trained in both the classical and flamenco traditions. My approach is methodical, but never rigid—I tailor each lesson plan to your goals, whether you are preparing for graded exams or simply want to understand the why behind the music. What I Cover in Lessons: 1. Classical Guitar Fundamentals · Posture & Hand Position: Achieving maximum efficiency with minimal tension. We look at sitting position, left-hand alignment, and right-hand resting stroke vs. free stroke. · Tone Production: Nail shaping, attack angles, and how to draw a singing tone from the instrument. · Sight-Reading & Theory: Learning to read standard notation confidently, not just tablature. We cover positions, key signatures, and how to interpret phrasing marks. · Repertoire Building: From Sor, Carcassi, and Aguado to Granados, Albéniz, and Villa-Lobos. I help you build a polished, performance-ready repertoire. 2. Flamenco Technique & Style · The Four Essential Strokes: Rasgueado (strumming variations), Picado (scale runs), Arpeggio, and Alzapúa (thumb technique). · Compás (Rhythm): Understanding the rhythmic cycles of Soleá, Bulerías, Tangos, Fandangos and many more. You will learn to feel the beat, not just count it. · Falsetas: Short, pre-composed solo phrases. We break them down phrase by phrase, then learn to link them together. · Accompaniment: Introduction to accompanying flamenco cante (singing) and baile (dance) – chord progressions, capo placement, and staying locked in with the singer. 3. Music Theory Applied to the Fretboard · Harmonic analysis of the music you are playing. · The difference between major/minor and the Andalusian cadence (Phrygian mode). 4. Creative Exploration · Once the fundamentals are solid, we explore arrangement. Learn to take a melody (folk song, film theme, or standard) and arrange it for solo guitar in flamenco style. Who This Is For: · Students preparing for formal music exams. · Self-taught guitarists looking to fix technique gaps and learn to read music. · Flamenco enthusiasts who want to move beyond "strumming" into authentic compás and falsetas. · Classical players curious about adding flamenco colours to their playing.

Do you want to play that song you love on guitar? You have some basic command of guitar already but you need some guidance. Perhaps you're uncertain which 'key' fits you best? Perhaps you're not sure if the song can even be played suitably on guitar? Where to start? Maybe you've tried already from a book or a YouTube video but it's just not happening? But, you just love a good melody ;-) I'm a British singer/song-writer/guitarist who has played concert halls to festivals in the UK and toured Europe with my own songs. I was raised on the classics. Beatles, Kinks, Ray Charles, Hendrix, Prince etc I've 'lived music' and 'lived from' music for many years. I performed thousands of intimate gigs and the vast majority of those have been solo performances. I've performed in-front of audiences of 50,000 and audiences of just 1. I won't get too technical and I won't start scoring music. In fact my music theory is basic, and I wouldn't claim to teach it. But what I'll show you is the soul of the song. Where the rhythm lives, how the groove feels and how to interpret that in terms of guitar. I'll listen to where you're at and be able to direct you better. Playing the guitar is closely linked to 'performance' and that's especially true if you want to entertain others. Thats my strength. To make the guitar shine, to become one with the instrument suits an extension of your body. To 'play' music and feel the joy in doing that, so that it makes you feel good and anybody listening too! That's the goal. Thats the challenge. I believe I can help you with that. “Music isn’t just a pleasure, a transient satisfaction. It’s a need, a deep hunger; and when the music is right, it’s joy. A foretaste of heaven.” —Orson Scott Card

Hi there, I’ve been playing guitar since I was 12 and was immediately hooked. Within a year I started playing in youth bands and projects, and during high school I moved to a music school where I began performing with bands and teaching guitar to kids as my first job. I later completed two bachelor’s degrees, the second in jazz guitar, at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Since then I’ve been working full time as a session guitarist, songwriter, and musical director with artists like Karsu, Alain Clark, Ruth Jacott, Jennie Lena, and many others, as well as releasing my own music as an independent artist under my stage name Jessy Hay. I’m extremely passionate about music theory, ear training, and music history, and I try to combine all of these with practical approaches to create a complete package for guitar enthusiasts. Over the years I’ve developed many methods and seen hundreds of students grow from being stuck on the instrument to becoming full-on improvisers and composers across many genres. I love to combine the theory and improvisation I’ve learned from jazz, together with the groove and rhythm from funk and soul, the attitude from rock, and the production and songwriting skills from pop music. I’m also very interested in Middle Eastern music, for students who want to explore other scales, Maqams, and musical languages. Lessons usually start by discussing the student’s goals and current level, followed by exercises and pieces tailored to their needs. I also provide guidance on instrument setup, tone, and technique, to ensure a solid foundation. My aim is to give students a full 360° view of music: understanding the language, knowing what you’re doing, and developing your own ways of improving by becoming more familiar with both the instrument and the musical language itself. If this sounds like something for you, I would love to hear from you.

Taryna is a great teacher to work with the kids. Her patience, encouragement, and knowledge in teaching made my daughter more confident in piano. I, as a parent of a 8 yea old would definitely recommend her for piano lessons!
