Whatever your age, background or level, you can go wherever your musical ambition takes you and achieve your full potential playing this amazing instrument. Anastasia brings over 10 years’ teaching experience to help you do this. Anastasia is a professional violin teacher from Ukraine , now living and working in UK, Kent. She graduated Moscow Conservatory (Masters degree in violin) where she continued working for a few years. While always having had a passion for teaching, this has grown in the last few years with giving private violin lessons in her own music studio. Whether the lesson is for you or for your children, Anastasia's teaching approach will absolutely depend on your needs: Lessons with children are fun, helping them to develop a sense of music, concentration, and confidence. She is always happy to give you feedback during the week. DURING THE LESSONS: Each individual will have different learning style. Therefore lessons are planned to ensure that all learning aspects are met. A basic outline of a lesson may roughly follow the below plan: * Developing good posture & Warm ups * Technique work * Musicianship- ( a variety of resources are used depending on the age of the student) This is a very important part of the lesson. I work towards providing a holistic musical education for all students.) * Notes Reading and Rhythm Skills * Repertoire * Improvisation & Ear Training (For intermediate and advanced students) * Reflection and Practice Targets FIRST LESSON: The first lesson is usually 45 or 60 minutes long. She will introduce you to some instrument basics, discuss your goals and music preferences, give you some suggestions for books and repertoire. I am a professional violin and viola teacher based in Zurich, teaching in person at students' location or online, in English, German or Russian. (Reviews below) As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe. I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano. As a performing musician, I perform internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, recently including at the Victoria Hall in Geneva, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Philharmonie in Berlin. I’m a Tillett Trust and Villa Musica artist, winner of the Małopolska competition, Barbirolli Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and Len Lickorish Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League International Strings Competition. I hold a masters degree with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and Bachelors with the same distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London. * Reviews * Stephanie W. Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. I can not recommend Toby enough and hope to continue lessons with him for a long time. Pamela B. Toby is really a great teacher who teaches the pieces well and brings out more of the feeling in the playing. We particularly liked that. Good technique is one thing, but feeling the music is such an important element in music and learning a piece of music. He also teaches theory very well! Tatyana M. Toby is a fantastic teacher. He is very reliable as he is consistently organised and punctual. I constantly see progress in my child’s music skills because every lesson Toby delivers is effective and well-structured. I highly recommend him to all who wish to learn or improve on their music skills. Shaun W. Knowledgeable and frank, Toby was able to provide me with crucial information quickly and efficiently. Hanna S. Toby can explain things very well and understandably, is patient and friendly and easily adapts to the student's level. Jacques R. Toby is an excellent tutor with top teaching skills..he teaches music theory in a way my 12 year old son understands the lesson easily; Toby is very attentive

Today, the violin has become one of the most popular and versatile of all musical instruments. Apart from classical, and, in France, gypsy swing, which remain his areas of predilection, he has introduced himself everywhere, into jazz, pop, electro, etc. However, at the beginning of the initiation, the basics remain more or less the same, in all styles. Everyone obviously has their own rhythm and these particular ambitions: I have students who practice for several hours every day, and others who only play once or twice a week, outside of class. I assume that almost anything is possible, provided you have the right learning methods. First, we will define, as precisely as possible, your objective. What style do you want to learn? Which artist inspires you and makes you want to learn the violin? What is your level of musicality, have you ever played the violin or other instruments? And finally, how much time do you want to devote to the violin? After having collected this information, I will offer you a suitable program, made up of technical exercises, training pieces, "objective" pieces, and also, which is often neglected, listening advice (such as when learning a language, you learn a lot by listening...). Also note that it is possible to play works that seem difficult, by tackling simplified versions. At the end of each course I send you a detailed report of what we have worked on, what has been accomplished and what remains to be worked on/corrected (without pressure, without stress, of course.. .;)) Teacher's presentation Coming from a family of violinists, I received my first violin lessons from my father at 4 years old. Now a graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory and the CMDL Didier Lockwood, I have been giving violin lessons for around twenty years. Passionate about transmitting, I teach a wide variety of styles, classical, jazz, gypsy swing, Latin, gypsy and traditional music, film music... We look forward to accompanying you from the discovery of the instrument to your first concerts... See you soon ! Musically, Simon

Private violin lessons, Music Theory, Technical and Musical Skills (Paris)
Ester
My private violin lesson with Ester was absolutely perfect. I had a privilege to hear Ester play her violin and she is so good- it is crazy to think I was able to learn from her. She is also such a good teacher. Full of knowlege and patience- which is, in my opinion, a rare combination. I had no prior musical education and this was my first real music lesson. Ester managed to teach me basic note reading, correct violin holding and even playing my first tunes. Her explainations are very clear and easy to understand. And her approach is very friendly. She is also a very nice person and easy to talk to. I wish we lived in the same city so I could keep studying playing violin with Ester- that's how good she is. Lidia

Anastasia
Anastasia is a fantastic teacher. She is very supportive and tailors each lesson depending on the students needs. I am an adult learner and feel that she is the best teacher for me. Anastasia is able to identify strengths and weaknesses and works with you to overcome them, she is also flexible and makes sure that you have helpful exercises and activities to do outside of lessons. I would highly recommend her.

Aida
Aida is really nice and patient. She takes time to understand the level of her students and explains clearly how to play this such difficult instrument, and also she makes you feel confident when you hold the bow for the very first time. Looking forward for my next classes with her.
