Hi, my name is Shanti and I’m a first year University Student at Erasmus University College. I am a native Italian speaker and I’m also fluent in English. My classes will focus on covering the basics of the Italian language as well as getting acquainted with Italian culture. My aim is to provide my students with enough grammatical and cultural knowledge to be able to hold a simple conversation. To teach I will mainly focus on conversational skills, however, I will also use handouts to teach grammatical concepts.
I come from a family background of teaching, therefore I know most of the skills necessary to get a concept across to my students.
My only hope is that by the end of our lessons, my students will have felt like they did a little trip to Italy and back :)

I am a very passionate student and teacher as I like both learning and teaching. I think that teaching in itself is an incredibly valuable learning experience.
I am a very disciplined and responsible person therefore I will focus on getting across the most difficult concepts to my students before anything, then I will gladly discuss with them Italian literature, cinema, food, etc.
I am a very sociable person and I'm easy to talk to, I really like getting to know my students, their stories and their background.

Ciao! I have been teaching Italian for the past twelve years. I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words.

I will customize my materials to your interests, needs and desired pace. And because you are learning from a native Italian you will also learn about Italian culture and history. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules.

I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...”

When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling and we will go on “talking walks” because when you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words.

I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

I'm Antoine, a MSc graduate in Applied Mathematics at TU Delft.

During all of my studies, I have tutored high-schoolers and bachelor students in Mathematics, French and Italian.

Now that I have settled in this new country I would like to start tutoring again. So if you are having a hard time in Mathematics (or in one of those languages) at any level, I will be more than happy to give you all the help you need!
