MonaleeAsk me about Jamaica! Are you curious to learn more about Jamaica- to go beyond Reggae and Jerk? Its history, people, politics and culture?
Ever wondered about life in Jamaica beyond the lights of Kingston’s allure? This class offers an ethnographic journey of practises and cultures in rural Jamaica, illustrated through photos, songs and videos. Let's explore life in rural Jamaica! Born and raised in a remote rural district/village, I will take you on an authentic journey of first hand experiences- reliving fond childhood memories, the stories my grandmother told me and what a typical day is like. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. Come prepared with a curious mind, and if you want to make notes take your pen and paper or do so on your devices. It is important for me that your are learning, so I encourage you to ask questions. Let's go beyond Kington's enigma!
SophieHigher and Standard Level History International Baccalaureate
History in the International Baccalaureate can be an incredibly demanding subject. It requires not only extensive knowledge of historical events, but also skilful strategy and excellent essay writing adeptness. I have designed my sessions to incorporate all three of these aspects by basing the teaching around your work and improvement. This allows me to personalise the lesson to work on the areas which are most helpful for you. I will teach you about essay writing specifically for the IB - the structure which gained me a level 7 in IB HL History when I graduated two years ago. I can also teach efficient revision techniques to retain not only the largest amount of education, but also the most important information.

ElmeInternational Baccalaureate History (Standard Level, Higher Level, Grade 3 - DP2, IB)
I completed the IB DP with a consistent 7/ high 6 in Higher Level History, and this has always been one of my favorite subjects. I am very good at this subject and have somewhat of a passion for it. I have a very good grasp of what is expected from the IB students as pertains to this subject, and I know the ins and outs of the criteria and the weird and wonderful little ways in which the IB expects the students to perform. I am able to help with any course work, homework, assignments, or assessments. As pertains to the DP students, I also did my EE on a History topic so I can assist there if need be. I am also a tutor in English and as comprehensive writing and legibility is a large part of what is expected from IB History students, I can offer particular insight into how to best write and get arguments across.

I have experience teaching large classrooms and one to one tuition. I have a BA in English Literature and a Masters in English Literature from the University of Durham. I believe that continued reading is an essential part of developing as an English and History student and that practice really does make perfect! I am a qualified TESOL teacher and after graduating with my undergraduate degree in 2015 worked in PR, Communications and Marketing. I am seeking to build on my previous teaching experience before continuing my education and am therefore hoping to provide tuition in essay writing, English Literature and English Language, and History. ClemencyHistory (for primary/secondary school, GCSE, A level)
History is a fascinating subject to study at school whether studying it at a high level such as A level or in secondary school building crucial skills for the future that will help you understand the world. However, mastering the art of History exams can be difficult (as a student myself I know!), and therefore having a former student who has achieved the highest grades help with it can both enable a student to reach their full potential and discover a newfound excitement towards the subject.
