Oxbridge Entry Tutoring for English Language and Literature: Personal Statement, ELAT and Interview Prep
I am an ex-Oxbridge student (I studied at Somerville College, Oxford, 2020-2023) offering tutoring and preparation aid for anyone thinking of applying to Oxford or Cambridge. I offer help getting to grips with the ELAT paper as well as help understanding how to prepare for your Oxbridge interviews. We can even start from the beginning and work on your personal statement.
Oxbridge applications have a very specific style to them that is often quite different to the teaching of English at most secondary schools. With specialised tutoring from a successful applicant, you can feel more confident about this process! My current success rate with Oxbridge applicants is 100%, however it is important to say that entry can never be guaranteed.

About Me
Hello! My name is Agnes, I'm an actor, designer and tutor from South London. I offer tutoring services in English (both language and literature) for all levels, acting/theatre studies for all levels and art/design for all levels.I studied English Language and Literature as my undergraduate degree at Oxford University, with a particular emphasis on classical and theatrical texts.
Since graduating I have become a professional actor and graphic designer. My recent credits include "Treasure Island" at the Orange Tree Theatre and being the graphic designer for APM Associates.
I have extensive experience in teaching and tutoring, having worked as a private and volunteer tutor for the past seven years, and can offer specialized and engaging lessons for anyone between the ages of 4-18.
I have experience tutoring for 11+, 13+, GCSE and A-Level English (and am familiar with multiple exam boards). I have tutored acting and theatre both in one-on-one sessions and in group sessions and offer a unique insight into studying theatrical texts as well as acting technique. I have tutored largely KS2/3/4 in art and design, however, I have both a D1 Pre-U in Fine Art and a stand-alone design qualification from CalArts.
I look forward to continuing to meet and teach new students!
For both the 11+ and 13+ exams in England, synonyms and antonyms are a key way in which your child will show their ability in the verbal reasoning paper. Following the content of Christine Draper's C.E.M. content book (in blue), I conduct a course between 5-15 sessions grouping these words into easy-to-remember themes.
You'll study word groups such as descriptors, movement, weather and more. These classes lay a particular emphasis on the practical and creative use of vocabulary because what's the point of learning words if you don't know how to use them in an interesting way!
We will practice creative writing, fun crosswords and more, as well as looking at the set question types in the 11+exams.
In these classes we will study one or more GCSE/A-Level texts in detail. Over a two-week period we will look at the themes, context, characters and criticism of a GCSE/A-Level text and work on how these parts of a piece of literature can be brought together for an examination answer.
The text(s) studied can be what you are going to be examined on, as a refresher or extra revision help. The text(s) could also be other pieces of literature on your exam board that you aren't going to study, as a way to expand your reading and become familiar with GCSE/A-level texts. Either way, we will practice thinking and writing critically so that you can blow the examiners away for your examinations.
Creative writing can be a difficult skill for some people to learn, but these lessons will help your child grow to love the process behind coming up with an exciting piece of creative writing.
These lessons focus on the school curriculum, drawing from often studied literary genres and coming up with creative responses to them. We might write in the gothic style, maybe a short mystery or even some travel writing! You will learn to expand your descriptive vocabulary and the building blocks which come together to form any good story.
Whether you're preparing for a specific audition, preparing for your LAMDA examinations, need some extra help with your school drama lessons, or want to bring your study of theatrical texts to life, these lessons will help you build your confidence in your ability to understand and perform theatre.
In these lessons you will work with a professional actor and acting tutor, learning the basics of acting practitioners, developing a process and method to prepare yourself for performance and really coming to grips with the piece(s) you are working with.

French communication skills and/or literature analysis
For people wanting to use french in everyday situations, I propose the communicative approach, focus on communication rather than grammar structures. This approach takes the focus off the language by stressing the content. The idea is to communicate fluently.
(If you were to learn how to repair a bicycle, for example, you would learn bike vocab then would then be able to communicate in French by using the relevant vocabulary and conveying their feelings, ideas and thoughts.)
For students wanting to learn French in a more literate approach, I propose analytic lectures of French classics, or any desired text. This can help for more elaborate grammatical structures and thorough vocabulary.
In addition to strengthening a more distinctive way of expression, you'll enhance your French culture

French private lessons by university graduate in Letters
Holder of a Master's degree in Letters and endowed with a solid experience in private lessons, I provide French lessons for students wishing to:
- consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling
- improve their language skills (allophone students)
- improve their speaking skills (conversation classes)
-profect the written expression
- prepare for ECR exams
- prepare for the written examinations at the end of the studies (maturity, certificate of completion)
- help with the writing of works of maturity (or other works of end of studies), of dissertation
- work on argumentative texts
- acquire a method to analyze literary texts
- learn how to perform bibliographic research
The course material is a Google Docs document that I create in which my explanations, possible links, exercises appear. By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing.
For help with writing:
The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson.
For analyzes of oral literary texts:
In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage.
For the corrections of end of studies work:
so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting.
Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone.
For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages.
For adults (FLE):
In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website).
The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling.
Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.

English Tutoring for Essays and Literature Classes or Creative Writing
Writing essays or a creative writing piece does not come easily to everyone, but learning how to analyze, interpret, and discuss literature in essays, as well as in life, is essential. It is important for younger generations to learn media literacy in today's age and learn how to write about different ideas and opinions without the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The trouble begins with picking a thesis, followed by structuring an essay. As a top essayist in my alma mater's English department, I believe I can help students compose a well-argued and well-structured essay for their literature classes without the use of AI and to help teach media literacy, with the help of close reading. I can also help with creative writing assignments from a structural standpoint by offering tips and constructive feedback.
