About Me

Experienced, versatile cello teacher, Josh is a professional cellist based in North London, available to teach all ages and ability ranges from beginner to professional, providing services for both in person as well as online teaching.

As a Master’s graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, receiving a Distinction honour, Josh studied with Professor Jo Cole for the duration of the degree. Before moving to London, Josh completed his undergraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music with a First Class (Hons) Bachelor of Music, studying with Professor Hannah Roberts. Prior to his time at RNCM, he studied at the renowned Chetham’s School of Music.

As a highly accomplished cellist with a deep passion for orchestral playing, Josh's musical journey began at a young age, becoming a member of numerous youth orchestras. He has worked with professional orchestras such as the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra, The Midland Sinfonia and Manchester Camerata through the PES scheme. In 2024, Josh joined the Paraorchestra, who revolutionise and disrupt the orchestral norm breaking boundaries of the typical orchestral setup.

As an active chamber musician, Josh is involved with ensembles, as the founder of the award-winning Bauhaus Trio as well as the Petford Ensemble. He has performed at venues across England and Europe. In 2022, Josh collaborated with his old school, Chetham’s, where he brought the Riedl Quartet, as the cellist of the ensemble, to coach and perform side by side with middle school students at the school, in an intensive two day project.

Josh’s versatility is evident, performing in the Forever Elton tribute band on electric cello and keyboard, as well as featuring in many Film and television scores, working as a session musician. As the cellist of Fordante, an Arts Council England funded ensemble, Josh often performs a mix of film scores and classical works across the UK.

With a commitment to excellence, a diverse range of musical abilities, and a passion for orchestral performance, Josh continues to captivate audiences and establish himself as a leading cellist in the industry.

Music Tutoring - Theory, Composition, History, and Technology
I specialise in tutoring music from beginner level to secondary school, having taught in the classroom up to IB and A Level music. I have taught composition and music technology coursework in these higher level studies and have had students attain a place at Oxford University to read music. No matter if you are a performer, composer, or academic musician, a solid grasp on music theory is extremely important. I have taught theory from beginner to advanced level and can tailor lessons to specific needs. I am a freelance composer and producer outside of tutoring and love to provide lessons for those who share the same enthusiasm for this creative process. The focus will be on honing composition and production techniques and refining the musical language of the artist. Even for beginner-entry creators, learning this at the start would be excellent for development.

Voice Teaching (Classical and Musical Theatre) All levels
I am a professional opera singer, currently studying a Master's at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Having performed numerous operas, oratorios and song recitals, I have a in depth and far reaching knowledge of the classical vocal repertoire and a good command of the musical theatre repertoire. Whether you are using it professionally or for fun, I am a strong believer that establishing excellent technique is essential to developing a voice. I work from the premise that no two voices are the same and I tailor lessons to suit my students. We will work on technique, repertoire, interpretation and, where appropriate, language skills. Together, we can work on building a healthy voice and compiling a book of repertoire to help you prepare for exams or recitals. The aim of a lesson is to achieve vocal freedom, which will allow the student to approach repertoire healthily and confidently without fear of the voice giving out. Whatever age, skill level or intention for using the voice, this will ultimately make singing more enjoyable! I have experience coaching choirs and working with young people, particularly with Cambiata North West. I have given masterclasses and singing days, most recently at Saffron Walden County High School. If you would like to organise a lesson, please do not hesitate to contact me via the details on the 'Contact' tab. During the COVID - 19 lock down and social distancing period, I will be teaching remotely via Skype and Zoom. As well as singing tuition, I am also happy to tutor music theory and academic music programmes up to and including A-Level Music. For young people, the aspects of performance and study go hand in hand and I believe it is important to offer support in all aspects of music!

Sara
Singing Lessons / Vocal Coaching with Leading Vocal Instructor
Sara’s teaching is primarily based on the Estill Model (Level 1 & 2 training by Stephanie Marko & Charlotte Xerri). This model focuses on different structures of the voice in isolation, before combining and manipulating them to form a desired voice quality. Lessons delve into effective techniques used by pop, musical theatre, jazz, classical and opera singers, such as: ‘speech’, ‘twang’, ‘belt’ and ‘sob’. Whether you are interested in developing a more versatile singing voice... or you are seeking a healthier, safer way to achieve powerful and high-intensity singing... Sara will work with you to discover your voice’s full potential!

Thomas
Musical theory or/and practice of flute and piano.
I'm an ex musical student and i come from a 8 years long training, of all the major branches of the subject. I can give an understanding of the musical score and consequential reading of musical pieces to play, after learning, with flute or keyboard(piano). The musical composition is to be divided in classical composition with counterpoints and all it's restricted rules, or the way it is conceived today, wich would mostly be understanding of the whole package of Music.. through experiencing the art of creation with software like sibelius, flstudio or reaper. if you have other needs in the field ask anytime
