Whether you are completely new to music or have been playing for a few years I can help guide you to improve, with structured lessons built around your individual interests.

I’m Joseph, an English-speaking Multi-Instrumentalist from Brighton, UK who has been lucky enough to have been playing music for nearly 20 years.
Primarily as a guitarist, I have spent years writing, recording, and performing music with various bands at venues ranging from International music festivals to coffee shops!
Having studied Professional Musicianship at the British Institute of Modern Music, my understanding of music is both professional and practical, and this is the approach I take when teaching.
Previously I have taught at the London Guitar Academy and I am now involved with BIMM Berlin.

Music should always be enjoyable and fun, so if you just want to work on a few songs to strum out at a BBQ then we can work through them!

Lessons are built around students' needs, creating realistic and rewarding goals to measure progress regardless of where you want to end up.

Maybe you want to work on your technique? Rhythm playing? Learn to write songs? Improvisation?

I also offer dedicated music theory classes and Lessons via Skype/Zoom if required

Sadly Due to COVID-19 I am currently not traveling to Student's homes for lessons, I am happy to host video lessons or teach at my home.

Both Electric Guitar and Acoustic Guitar classes are available.
I am also happy to work purely on Music theory.

I am currently only offering lessons in English as I am still new to Berlin and am not at a strong enough level to teach in German.

I am a multi- instrumentalist musician who has studied, learned and loved music for nearly 20 years.

I have recently moved to Berlin to focus on my own music composition and return to teaching after working within the busy Film & TV industry in London.

I studied Professional Musicianship at the British Institute of Modern Music in Brighton, UK before spending years performing and recording with various musical artists and bands.

From my experience in the UK's busy live performing circuits, I developed a strong understanding of the skill set required to be a working musician.

Now I offer friendly and well structured personal lessons designed to help YOU improve your playing, regardless of wether its just hobby or something you wish to pursue professionally.

Opleiding

I have a BA(Hons) degree in Professional Musicianship from the British Institute of Modern Music where my main focus was on the Guitar. Since then I have continued my own personal development by studying Orchestration and arrangement.

Leservaring

Along side my Academic qualifications I have extensive live performance and industry experience, as part of contemporary Indie Guitar bands and Americana Folk style bands.

Before moving to Berlin I was Guitar tutor for the London Guitar Academy and now I am currently involved with the BIMM Berlin music institute.

An understanding to fundamental Music Theory is essential to developing as a musician, however it is often an area over looked and perceived to be daunting by many student.

You may not know anything! or you may be looking for ways to improve your writing? Modes? Understanding Chord Progressions?
Whatever your previous knowledge base I can help you to understand theory concepts from foundation to an advanced level and help you to apply them.

Classes will cover subjects such as Intervals, Chord structures, Scales, Harmonic Development, Chord Progressions, Modal writing, Secondary Dominants, Mediant Modulation and more.

Hi there! I'm a professional, award-winning guitarist with over 18 years of experience playing Jazz, Blues, Funk, Pop, and Finger-style. I have worked internationally as a bandleader, accompanist, and solo performer.

My approach to teaching is very pragmatic, time-efficient, and fun and I prefer not to overwhelm students with too much information or technical exercises. I believe that the number one priority both in playing and teaching music should be enjoyment, and that's why I tailor each lesson to the uniqueness of each student, making sure that we are learning about things that YOU want to learn about and moving towards YOUR unique goals.

My teaching is also informed by years of research into areas such as neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and meditation. This background has allowed me to develop a truly holistic approach to music, one which promises not only faster improvement, but also greater musical EASE, ENJOYMENT, and CREATIVITY.

Like with languages, intuition plays a huge part in learning an instrument. Most often in music, the correct choice will the the one that ~feels~ the most natural. This is what my teachers, from when I was a kid, all the way to the end of my studies at the conservatory, have prioritized in lessons; Working less hard to sound better.

I’m here to help you in the same way, to decipher with you certain sounds, certain gestures in recorder playing, so that we can map out together your skill set, and eventually find your own style of play.

When it comes to the grammar part of music, I’m ready to teach you everything about reading notes, intervals, chords, and all the principles of music theory, with examples and fun exercises.

I am a very patient person, and have experience with beginners as well as “matured” amateurs :)

I hold a masters in early music, along with a bachelors in classical composition.

My dream is to live from composition mainly, writing music for concerts, film and ballet. Currently I’m working on a ballet commission from the Schauspielhaus in Zurich, and more original music for a series of concerts next summer in France.

My favorite composers are Bartok... and a bunch of anonymous medieval ones.
