Trusted teacher: The Economics 1 course will start with a presentation of the demand and supply economic model in order to provide an analysis of the mechanisms and inner workings of competitive markets (price determination, equilibrium quantity, etc.). It will also be the occasion to investigate the impact on the competitive equilibrium of some public policies such as price control and indirect taxation. The course will then determine why, and under which conditions, free trade can be viewed as an efficient way to coordinate the actions of specialized economic agents. Through a careful examination of the (utopic) necessary conditions a market must fulfil so as to be considered perfectly competitive, it will be brought to the students' attention that those conditions are seldom (if ever) respected: the course will then provide an overview of several market failures, as well as study in detail several types of imperfect competition. Finally, the question of the possibility (and the necessity) of public intervention in a market economy will remain a central focus throughout the course. Part I: Introduction Chapter 1: "To think like an economist" - basic concepts (Mankiw, chapitres 1 et 2) Part II: Supply and demand - how markets work Chapter 3: The market forces of supply and demand (Mankiw, ch. 4, ch. 5) Chapter 4: Consumers, producers and the efficiency of markets (Mankiw, ch. 7, 8) Chapter 5: Supply, demand and government policies (Mankiw, ch. 6) Part III: Market failures under perfect competition Chapter 6: Externalities (Mankiw, ch.10) Chapter 7: Public goods and common resources (Mankiw ch. 11) Part IV: Firm behavior in competitive markets Chapter 8: The costs of production (Mankiw, ch. 13) Chapter 9: Firms in competitive markets (Mankiw, ch. 14) Part V: Imperfect competition Chapter 10: The monopoly and other examples of imperfect compeition (Mankiw ch. 10, 11)

Annelise - Brussels30€
Trusted teacher: I've been teaching English to small children up to teenagers at École Française Internationale. I give lessons for beginners and intermediate levels. I mix between French and English so the pupil doesn't get too confused, but also allows them to understand every detail. For beginners, we usually talk about our surroundings, what's close to us and what affects us on a daily basis. (Numbers, directions, the weather, asking simple questions, what's a noun and pronoun and where to put them in a sentence). I like to find playful activities so that the pupil/student is in control of their work. Of course, this is an example for a certain age group, but it also varies depending on their knowledge and their age. For intermediates, we make basic conversation. Ex: How do you go to school; What do you do in your free time? ; What's the weather like? -------------------------------- The start of the course with a new learner consists of detecting their level by talking about their background, what they already know, what they must master in order to no longer have any gaps. The first lesson also allows the learner to get comfortable and get to know me to establish mutual trust. That’s why I use a touch of my British humor to achieve this. (I generally do this at the start of the lesson with my students to establish a good mood and they are always delighted!) To help the learner better engage with the learning, I will ask them what their passions/hobbies are, this who interests him to arouse interest in learning. I will adapt my lessons on subjects that speak to him more. Whatever the reason for the course, whether it is to improve oral, written, reading or listening comprehension, I organize audio sessions, readings, everything necessary to deepen in the language.

Lynn - Ixelles-Elsene33€
Trusted teacher: Hi there! I'm Lynn, a languages and all culture-related enthusiast with a particularly keen interest in singing, storytelling and transdisciplinary art. Which in turn led me to be a freshly graduated Master-student in Performing Arts, with a Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages and Letters where I primarily studied English as well as Russian linguistics and literature, along with a Dutch minor. These university years gave me the opportunity amongst others to learn more in-depth about the subjects I was most passionate about during my Art Humanities, i.e. performance studies, philosophy, art - and cultural history, as well as literary/critical analysis of various different artforms. Brought up bilingual (French-Dutch) from earliest infancy, I very early came to realise the many possibilities and encounters this opened up, which encouraged me to continue down this path of language learning and intercultural communication. At first, I was incredibly fortunate to benefit from the work of a truly invested and passionate English teacher during the scope of my humanities and to acknowledge all of the difference that it makes when learning a foreign language. Subsequently, prior to my studies I got the chance to travel to Ireland for a year during which I mainly worked as an au pair. This not only took my English to the next level, but also sharpened my childcare skills and pedagogical abilities. Now that I've completed my studies and am opening up a new chapter of my working-life, I'm very excited to put all of this baggage to work along with you! I wholeheartedly believe in the power of play and sharing fun, artistic and/or meaningful activities which help put things into practice in order to learn a new language in a lively, profound and sustainable way. So, what do you think? Care to invite me aboard your learning journey?~ ⛵🗺️✨

Josiane is a very friendly and professional French teacher, who has a number of practice tools and ideas. For example, we practiced from grammar to pronounciation, as well as dictation and conversation. We had very interactive and interesting lessons. She is very patient and also flexible, so I could focus on topics which I need more practice.

Pavel is a great teacher and infuses his lessons with his passion for music. He’s great at explaining complex / subtle musical concepts and tasks in simple, easy to understand metaphors. Overall I’m happy I got to study with him, and am excited to see how my skills evolve as we move forward with our lessons :)
