Do you want to learn how to play piano? Do you want to have music in your own hands? In this class, you can learn how to play this beautiful instrument as well as develop your technique and musicality. You will also learn and develop music theory knowledge, for instance, reading scores, basic harmony, and rhythm.
I have 20 years of experience playing the piano and I love to share my knowledge and love for the instrument! I am a classically trained pianist that is now studying composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. As a pianist, I worked as a private teacher, and as an accompanist. I am familiar with classical repertoire as well as music from the 20th and 21st-century. If you prefer Pop, Folk, Jazz, or another style, the classes can also be focused on those styles of music.
If you have a specific kind of repertoire or piece in mind we will work on it! If you are unsure about what to play, I can give you suggestions and show you different repertoire so you can choose something that truly captivates you.

About Me
My name is Bernardo I come from Lisbon, Portugal. I am currently a master's student of composition in the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. I started learning music and to play the piano when I was 5 years old and since then I am in love with what I do.I want to share my enthusiasm with my students and help them achieve their goals of learning and becoming better musicians. As a teacher, I believe it is important to listen to your students and find an approach that works well with their characteristics.

In this Classical Composition or Songwriting class, that's exactly what we'll be focusing on! You can choose to focus on composing classical music, using scores, or creating your own songs, either for you or other people to sing. You will learn music theory, learn how to use music software like reaper, ableton, sibelius or musescore, and you'll work alongside me to discover your own voice in music making.
My name is Bernardo and I am a composer from Portugal who specializes and studies contemporary classical music. I also create my own songs in a singer-songwriter style and I have made music for film and videogame.
I am currently doing a master's in Composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp where I study with Wim Henderickx. I have studied in the past with composers such as Luís Tinoco, Carlos Caires and Eurico Carrapatoso.
My works have been played in several European concert halls and I have in my portfolio works for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, orchestra and choir.
I am also currently doing a bachelor's in singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, so if you are a singer-songwriter, we can also work on your own voice.

I am piano docent in Conservatory and performing pianist.
I give private piano lessons to students of all ages and levels. Are you an enthusiastic beginner or do you want to pick up again after some time?
Toddlers and preschoolers from 3 years old can take their first steps in the world of the piano. Young adults and adults are also very welcome!
The piano lessons take place at my home in Berchem or online via Zoom or Skype. Due to the corona crisis, taking piano lessons online has become popular, although it can still be done at home without a problem. I live a short distance from Berchem station .
During the lessons I will take into account specific wishes, such as preference for classical or popular music. I use a piano method suited to your age. No prior knowledge of music is required.
I will open the world of music through the basics of piano playing. You don't know where to start? No worries, in this class you will learn everything about fingers, pianos and posture!
My goal is to encourage you to pursue your passion now, or to bring out the best in you.
I have been active as a pianist for more than 20 years. I graduated as a Master of Music.

I have been playing guitar for more than 15 years and I have participated in music bands and live shows.
I am also working on electronic music through my laptop and hardware devices (synths, drum machines etc)

In the beginning we will work on your favourite songs. At some point you will be able to make your own songs and you will have the opportunity to record your ideas and share them to the public!
For the super young ones: We will start with easy tunes and then, we will work on your favourite songs!

Piano lessons for acquiring and/or improving piano skills
In my class, I teach piano in a way that allows you to make progress on your own. "Don't give a man a fish, instead teach him how to fish," is the idea here. My methods include, besides basics, approaches to expressing your own musicality, stable memorization, practice habits and efficiency, technical ease, focus exercises, body awareness, and stage fright. Hence, I am best suited for intermediate and advanced students that have the desire to either study piano on a collegiate level or make significant improvements for themselves. I would like to add at this point that I have a special affinity for the concert etudes by Frédéric Chopin. However, I am perfectly happy to start with students from the very beginning as well and regardless, I will adjust to my student's needs upon mutual agreement. My free times that I listed as available are a rough estimate, lesson times are normally negotiable.

In my experience as a musician living and working in Belgium for the past 6 years, I have noticed a gap in the musical education of young Belgian music students transitioning from Music academies into Conservatories. Oftentimes, these young music students seeking to enter conservatories do not possess the necessary skill level to enter higher education in Music. Through my private teaching, I intend to bridge this gap by catering specifically (though not exclusively) to these students. In these lessons I would like to teach the student how to tackle a music dictation and how you can study for it. The dictation is very easy after a few lessons; after looking at the harmonization, possible modulations and interval exercises to more easily recognize intervals and memorize melody lines, it will be much easier when you hear a dictation to be able to fill it without error. I have been learning the violin and piano since 5 years old, and am currently taking a bachelor in Music Performance in Violin, in the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
Students of any age are welcome, and I have special experience with beginner and younger students, having given a lot of lessons of piano and music theory.
I teach in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and basic Dutch.
The individual violin and piano lessons are personalized and tailored to the progress and learning ability of each student.
