Trusted teacher: I have been teaching Turkish for 16 years. I started to teach when I was studying Turkish Language and Literature. I worked in a language school and at the universities, I suppose that I gained success. 😊 My achievements are directly proportional to my students’ success. I feel rewarded when I witness their progress in applying their Turkish language skills to their daily lives. Over the years, I have met hundreds of people from all over the world, taught Turkish, and told them about Istanbul and Turkey. Those people told me about their countries and learned to express themselves in Turkish. For example, I ask them: “Do you like Istanbul?” in Turkish it is “İstanbul’u senior museum?” or “ Traffic is very bad in Istanbul!”, “İstanbul’ da çok Trafik var!” The basic but correct conversation is really important for self-confidence in any language. If a learner can master basic sentence forms, the rest will come much easier. On the other hand, making mistakes is also very important. Especially, a learner can not speak without making a mistake the first and second time. My students are always varied and have diverse learning skills. My professionalism also allows me to tailor language education according to individual interests, needs, and capacities. In the classroom, I hold firm three main principles: first, providing a comfortable environment, second, creating an encouraging atmosphere, and third, establishing a collaborative instruction model. I consider that I developed an aptitude for making learning Turkish to become much easier, enjoyable and practical for my students. I use a book prepared by a university in Turkey. I share the pdf version of the book for my lessons. I also adapt the materials according to the learner’s needs and support the book with my authentic materials. Even though I use a communicative approach, all my lessons are guided by a solid knowledge of grammar. On the online lessons, I send an e-mail after every lesson. That word file includes a vocabulary list, sentences (corrected and uncorrected versions, you can compare both of them easily), grammar point and homework for revision. In this way, you can find everything in a file well organized. When we have a face to face lesson, I give a hard copy of this list after every lesson. The lessons could be at my home office or in my student's house or office. I sometimes meet with my students in a coffee shop, I try to prefer silent places. :) How learning a new language opens a new window into a person, teaching Turkish is also the same for me! I was always interested in languages - I could speak a bit of Italian and learned Persian grammar except English. I always think about Istanbul -I was born and grew up here- it is a good place for self-improvement. First and foremost, Istanbul hosts international people coming from around the world. It is considering to me, I am lucky because I have one of the pleasant professions. When teaching Turkish, promoting cross-cultural awareness forms an important part of my lessons. Teaching the language involves both the students and myself in a dynamic conversation about our cultural backgrounds. Teaching Turkish is in fact not only teaching a language but also teaching a culture. I am interested in cinema, music and like visiting museums. I always share the activities with my students. I also teach Turkish to young learners. I started to study Child Development at Istanbul University as a second university in 2018. We say in Turkish, “Studies have no age!" If you want to speak Turkish well, please contact me. It is fun, and we will smile during the lesson!

Hatice - Sancaktepe$25
Trusted teacher: Hi, I am Hatice from Istanbul I am a native speaker of Turkish. I have been teaching Turkish to foreigners and I have thought hundreds of students from all ages and professions for more than 20 years. I am a professional English teacher but I like teaching Turkish more as it is my mother tongue and it is a great pleasure for me to share the secrets and beauties of it. While teaching I also love giving some useful information about the culture, people, cuisine, films and literature in Turkey to help you get connected to Turkish culture. I prepare written and verbal diologues in the areas the student is interested. I am from Istanbul but I traveled almost all cities, mountains, rivers, lakes of Turkey. I am a person who like less traveled roads and back streets. Travelling around the world and reading on the areas of spirituality, philosophy, psychology and literature are my number one hobbies. I lived and worked in London, Toronto and S. Korea. Living as an expat and learning several languages have helped me having sympathy with my students. Motivation, feeling relaxed and setting realistic target in the beginning are usually the first thing to go. As for my formal education, I studied Economics, International Relations,Western Philosophy and American language and literature at the university (MA and BA). And after my 40 years old, I learned classical Arabic and Persian and started to study Islamic spirituality at doctorate level. I taught English at Prep. school at Istanbul Technical University and Yeditepe University and am retired. Ever since I could remember I have been a teacher. Now I only teach Turkish privately and translate classical novels from English to Turkish. I translated 12 books from English to Turkish. I teach Turkish that are tailored for each student. Each student is unique for me and I know that every student has her/his own way of learning. If you are beginner I give a short lecture about the history of Turkish and its characteristics and help you find your way in this very logical, consistent and elegant language. You understand that Turkish is different but that does not necessarily mean difficulty. From the first lesson you start speaking Turkish and find yourself in a dialogue. I can teach at my my place and your you place (all around Istanbul) I use several books using a grammar-based approach integrated with communicative methods to boost the development of all language skills. But we always focus on TALK, TALK, TALK. As a language learner for many years I know one can learn, improve and take pleasure of a foreign language only by talking and communicating. It is essential to get direct pleasure from what you have learned. My aim is to motivate and and inspire you to speak Turkish ignoring minor mistakes and without thinking grammar. I try to keep contact with my student almost every day through whatsapp and email. And start some short dialogues.

Trusted teacher: Привет! I'm Inna and I teach Russian with Natural Approach. It means I don't focus on conscious grammar studying but on meaningful communication providing large amounts of comprehensible language input. What do we do in the lessons? - I speak Russian all the time, drawing, using gestures, manipulatives, illustrations, maps, sharing the screen, even acting - anything to make myself understood without translation. - I speak slowly and clearly, adjusting the vocabulary and sentence structures to your level - in a parentese form of speech. - No English from me. English is limited to about 5-10% of the time, in case of emergencies or administrative questions. - No grammar. I'm not against grammar. But it feels right to me to experience the language before/instead of learning the complicated theory (especially as Russian grammar is very confusing). It's like playing a table game - I prefer figuring out the rules in the process. If it makes sense for you, Natural Approach might be something that fits you. Very short 5 seconds grammar explanations may pop up through quite rarely especially on your demand. If you really love grammar, then I’d recommend having a mass listening experience and having internalized some grammar intuitionally first and then turning to grammar (not learning!) to check yourself or clear something up. - We speak on any topic that naturally emerges in the conversation. Life, personal stories, movies, music, art, food, society, science – anything that adults usually talk about. - You start speaking little by little giving short answers to simple questions at the early production stage extending the answers and your own messages gradually at a natural convenient pace at the following stages. - Delayed reading. I recommend delaying reading at least until the speech emergence stage. Reading is pronouncing written messages. Therefore, it will be far easier to read when you have internalized enough vocabulary, pronunciation and have a stable mental and audial picture of the language. How to start speaking? If you want to start speaking Russian naturally, you need a language parent who applies the following principles during the sessions: - Effortless and voluntary speaking After the silent period of the pre-production stage, a language parent creates opportunities for effortless and voluntary speaking emerge gradually and progressively from short answers of the early production stage to simple intelligible messages of the speech emergence stage and then to complete detailed messages of intermediate fluency stage. The language parent tolerates the learner’s silence, slow speed speech, and mistakes, and works to understand the learner’s messages. - Comprehensible input The language parent makes the language input comprehensible (by drawing, illustrated stories, pictures, manipulatives, realia, gesturing and even acting out) and adjusts to the learners level (simplifying, repeating, rephrasing, slowing down the speech) with (almost) no grammar explanations, corrections, and translation. - Meaningful communication A language parent focuses only on meaningful communication working to find common interests, relevant, interesting content and to create positive emotional interaction that makes the learner acquire the language naturally and deeply, eliminating the need for motivation. What methods are used in the lessons? Any kind of comprehensible input-based methods and techniques may be used at the lessons: - Drawing, realia, gesturing, manipulatives, illustrations, maps - Parentese form of speech - simplifying, repeating, rephrasing, or slowing down speech - Story Listening - TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) - TPR (Total Physical Response) - MovieTalk How often should you have lessons? You have lessons to practice speaking. The more often you speak the faster you progress. I’d recommend speaking all day long every day. You will definitely tell me that you don’t have so much time. I’d recommend having a one-hour conversation session every day then. You may tell me that you are not able to sustain such a rhythm. Just have lessons as often as you possibly can. About me I'm a certified full-time native Russian tutor. My professional and personal experience has always been related to interacting with foreigners. I got used to it and it became a meaningful part of my life. I studied to be a Russian teacher at Moscow State University in Moscow in 2012 with traditional learning methods. But when I discovered the Comprehensible Input hypothesis by Steven Krashen it felt so right that I applied it in my practice immediately. I could see how well it worked and I rebuilt my program completely to fit the CI-based Natural Approach. Previously I worked in tourism. I'm married to a French, I have a 4-year-old daughter and I currently live in Moscow. I understand quite a lot and speak a bit of French and I'm still learning it. In general, I'm a peaceful and friendly person. My interests are laying mostly in arts, science, and dear-friends-meetings. Book a lesson - try me, try learning Russian with Natural Approach. It might be something that fits you. До встречи!

Jamie - London$53
Trusted teacher: Hi students and music lovers ! Piano is a fun and rewarding way to explore music for people of all ages, whether you've played music before or not, and is one of the most accessible instruments right from the first lesson! I teach with a variety of pop-transcriptions and easy Classical pieces, simple improvisation and harmony exercises, and am comfortable adapting to each pupils own way of learning. If you're new to piano, or have played before and want to rekindle your love of music, get in touch to arrange a first lesson! I will book us a room with a grand piano at the Academy. I graduated Master’s cum laude in Piano Performance at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre studying with prof. Peep Lassmann, who was himself a student of the great Russian pianist Emil Gilels. I have 12 years' private teaching experience, and was employed by Märjamaa Music and Art School as a 1:1 piano teacher in 2018-19. I also have a BMus (Hons) degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and DipABRSM, the standard professional teaching qualification in the UK. Reviews from current students: "Jamie is an amazing teacher. I had no knowledge of piano before him and was worried in general of being able to learn. His way of explaining, patience and incredible passion for music gave me the push to try and are reinforcing my motivation to learn more day-by-day. Our classes are alive, fun, and so much like a continuous journey through all the aspects of piano music." - Angelyk "Jamie makes this comfortable atmosphere, you'll never be afraid to make a mistake. I learned a song already in my second/third lesson. 🙂 " - Taimi

Turkish Lessons (In-Person OR Online) for Adults and Kids from an Experienced and Patient Teacher Living in Istanbul-Learn&Practice&Speak! (Üsküdar)
Başak
I am following a class with Başak to learn turkish. The lessons are held in english. This course covers pronunciation, grammar and free speaking which are also adapted to daily life situations as well as speaking about yourself. I have experienced a very well organized and structured teacher on a professional basis. The teacher gives clear instructions, pays attention to the pronunciation and corrects you when needed, which is crucial for the turkish pronunciation. The course fees contain the tuition as booked and course material as the class is accompanied by a book (workbook and exercise book) and audio files. The books are sent to you in advance, makes it very convenient to take a print out or as a digital version on your tablet/PC/phone. Between the lessons homework will be assigned and checked by her via mail and discussed in the next lesson. So far, I am very happy with the lessons and I am also confident that I will improve my turkish steadily in the future with her. Thanks

Valentyna
Valentyna is an excellent teacher. She is always extremely well-prepared. The level of her lessons is very well pitched: each lesson builds on the work of the previous lesson and I am always challenged throughout the lesson. This means I have learned a lot in a very short space of time and I can see the progress I am making. Valentyna is also very friendly and the atmosphere of the classes is very good. I highly recommend learning with Valentyna
