Learning American History Doesn't Have to Be Boring!

I am an accomplished tutor with 12 years experience and a PhD in Linguistics. Teaching English is undoubtedly my vocation. My vast experience enables me to develop students' confidence, improve their spoken English and prepare them for the Cambridge English exams. My university majors were English Linguistics, Pedagogy and Psychology of High School. I am currently pursuing a BA in North American Studies at Free University of Berlin. Studies are extremely interesting and challenging, and I'm pleased to share with students materials from English courses and my knowledge of US history. During my English classes I focus on intensive language practice and speaking fluency. Firstly, we will pay attention to grammatical and lexical gaps, learn to analyze speech and use less "simple" words, that is, we will enlarge the vocabulary with proper synonyms (C1-C2 level). Besides, we will gradually introduce idioms into speech and use complex grammatical constructions. After and during each lesson I write down a lesson protocol in Google Docs, including all the material, texts, and proofreading. It goes without saying, I guarantee a responsible approach, frequency and intensity of lessons.

Learning history is usually necessary to pass certain courses in primary school, secondary school and even in some universities, even if the course we study is not specifically about History. This is because in general, we will have to locate ourselves in a particular context of human societies, their thinking and activities. I am passionate about history and also teaching, integrating the student in the analyzes and explanations, so my classes will depend on the student and their interests. This would be to develop analogies, relationships and even memes regarding the topics to be seen that allow you to approach the content in a more effective way. The virtual/online modality will allow us to more easily access audiovisual resources that support the analysis of the topics, but without neglecting our own reading and reasoning analysis. Understanding the causalities and coincidences of historical subjects, finding similarities and differences between human societies across times and geographical spaces, their ways of seeing the world and what brings them closer and further away from our current situation will be our general objectives.

I completed the IB DP with a consistent 7/ high 6 in Higher Level History, and this has always been one of my favorite subjects. I am very good at this subject and have somewhat of a passion for it. I have a very good grasp of what is expected from the IB students as pertains to this subject, and I know the ins and outs of the criteria and the weird and wonderful little ways in which the IB expects the students to perform. I am able to help with any course work, homework, assignments, or assessments. As pertains to the DP students, I also did my EE on a History topic so I can assist there if need be. I am also a tutor in English and as comprehensive writing and legibility is a large part of what is expected from IB History students, I can offer particular insight into how to best write and get arguments across.

As a recent History postgraduate, attaining a 2:1 degree at the University of Manchester I will pass on sizeable knowledge to prospective Historians. Largely focusing on Political and Social, with elements of Economic history, my teaching will generally mirror my specialties. I specialise in post 1960s Britain, particularly the 1980s, which was the topic for my 13,000 word dissertation. Similarly, I achieved first class and no lower than 2:1 grades in subjects spanning from the beginnings of the Islamic world in late antiquity, to the study of Ancient Greece through archaeological remains, to the industrial revolution and the formation of class in Britain, to the British colonialisation of India and Africa, to the Jim Crow south in the US, to the transnational community post ww2, to the theoretical nature of the memorialisation of WW2s events in eastern Europe. Though certain subjects I have delved even deeper into, my vast knowledge of a wide scope of historical eras and subjects, as well as my experience in History at russel group University level (2:1), A Level (A) and GCSE level (A) stages, allows me to tutor Historians of all ages and levels.

With this course I want to make available to anyone the knowledge acquired over 20 years teaching history courses in colleges and universities. The course focuses on the great historical narratives of the West and the Latin American region, from prehistory to contemporary times. The topics are presented in a synthesized and digestible way, focusing on the most relevant events of each period to build a general vision of the history of human beings. The option of studying a specific period or historical event in depth is also offered at the student's request. The methodology used in the course is predominantly active (Learning based on problems, challenges, by discovery, etc.) And sometimes some of the avant-garde.

I specialise in History A-Level and GCSE as a recent History Graduate with 1st Class honours. I am very familiar with the exams at both levels having gone through them myself and tutored these levels throughout my time at university.
