Latin Class and Western History Tutoring (SAT and Interests)

Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart. I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches: If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options: 1) Learn the schedules by heart. 2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m. In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster. My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results. Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind. I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics. What will not be the subject of the course: learn lists of verbs; learn lists of nouns with their gender; learn words with their translations; memory card game; doing school exercises; follow the program in a notebook; impose French grammar on the Latin language. What matters to me in particular: motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm; encourage creativity; make friends with language; letters and their sounds strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop; teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart; explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible; breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ; place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice. I am a Classical Philology student at the University of Valencia, with great teaching skills and a knack for explaining things. Classical languages are essential for learning our own language and a great help for learning other diverse languages. My teaching methodology is to consolidate the foundations of the subject with simple but well-explained examples, with the goal of improving the understanding of languages from their roots and helping the student acquire fundamental knowledge for continuing or deepening their study of the subject.

In this Latin course, I offer "Common Entrance at 13+" training (including scholarship papers) for those students who have studied Latin for one or two years, and would like to revise, do translations and read from fun books such as Minimus or So you really want to learn Latin. Plenty of cultural stories and mythology in the mix, besides battles and august men. A basic understanding of grammar (or willingness to learn) expected. Ideally, students ought to be doing Latin at school and preferably have a second language (a Romance language ideal for securing a higher grade).

I offer general history courses tailored to the needs of students, from middle school to master's level. The sessions aim to develop both an understanding of major periods and historical issues, as well as the ability to critically analyze sources and events. Depending on the level, courses may focus on reviewing chronological bases, preparing for exams (maturité, baccalauréat, mid-terms), in-depth thematic study (social, political, cultural, international history), or even support for research and writing academic papers. The teaching methods are interactive and personalized: contextualizing key concepts, explaining documents, synthesis exercises, and dissertation practice. The objective is to give students solid tools to understand the issues of the past and develop critical thinking skills that are useful both in their studies and in their daily lives.

This 60-minute course examines the pivotal role of France's crippling public debt in the lead-up to the 1789 Revolution. We will explore how decades of costly wars left the monarchy fiscally insolvent. The course will reveal how the Crown's attempts to reform the tax system—and extend taxation to the privileged nobility and clergy—sparked a political showdown. We will analyze how the aristocracy’s refusal to sacrifice its fiscal exemptions created a constitutional deadlock, forcing the king to convene the Estates-General for the first time in over 150 years. Ultimately, this course demonstrates that the financial crisis was not merely an economic problem, but a deeply political one that catalyzed the collapse of the Ancien Régime.
