Latin is one of the most fascinating, engaging, and also challenging languages of all. Basis of so many western languages, with deeply embedded impact on the English language itself, that are many reasons to dive into Cicero's prose or Vergil's verse.

Used up into the 19th in much technical literature, the knowledge of Latin can unlock a truly vast world of knowledge and, of course, beauty from the many works of Latin literature. Apart from that, knowing Latin truly helps to learn the neo-latin languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian); I should know it, as I am a native speaker of Portuguese.

In this course, I will show the basics of this fascinating language the only way I know, and the only way I think it actually works, that is, through a careful balance of good old grammar and basic vocabulary.

Introduction to the metaphysics of Aristotle - basics concepts

I aim to present in the clearest way possible the basic concepts of Aristotle's metaphysics.

In doing so, this course can be considered not a completely unreasonable introduction to metaphysics, at least from a historical point of view, since if Aristotle is not the very first metaphysician, he certainly occupies has a very special place among the early metaphysicians and his discussions of metaphysics continue to set the agenda, in a way or another, to the discipline.

After some contextualization, I will deal with Aristotle's theory of causes, his views on final causation (teleology), some of his topics concerning the nature of time, space, infinity, logic, his theory of substance and essence, his famous Categories, and his complex work, the Metaphysics.

I am a native speaker of Greek. I graduated from a Greek high school and, later, the University of Athens where I attended courses in pedagogics, psychology, and linguistics.

During our lessons, I'll help you develop your skills (oral/written, and not only). I'll also try to help you improve your pronunciation and spelling. I assign homework and after I receive it, correct it thoroughly additionally providing a lot of remarks/examples if they are necessary.

I worked at a language center between 2009-2016 where I was a director of studies and taught mainly English as a foreign/second language. Since 2005, when I first started teaching Greek, I have taught children and adults on a variety of language proficiency levels, mainly individually.

I adore my profession and desire each and every one of my students be satisfied with the lesson. That's why I make sure the atmosphere is stress-free and nice. I also want my lessons to be as effective and close to real-life needs as possible. Therefore, I make sure they are well-prepared, although they can be altered at any point, should such an opportunity arise. An introduction to the basic syntactic and grammatical phenomena of the ancient Greek language. We use texts from the ancient Greek Literature (Ancient Greek History, Tragedies and Myths) as well as the Bible or Byzantine Hymnology in order to better understand the structure and way of thinking of the Greek language. A LIVING METHOD
Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, I will help you progress in Latin or ancient Greek, which you will learn as a living language: it will not be primarily a question of translating Latin or Greek, but above all of speaking it, reading it, writing it!

FORGET YOUR DICTIONARY
By doing so, you will memorize vocabulary and grammatical structures much more easily than with the classic method based essentially on translation. You will no longer spend your life in the dictionary, and eventually, you will read your favorite authors like an open book!

LATIN
I essentially offer a living Latin course based on the Orberg method, acclaimed by thousands of Latinists around the world. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, I can accompany you on the chapters corresponding to your level of Familia Romana (first volume) or Roma Aeterna (second volume). It is therefore important that you get this book.

If you want to work on Familia Romana, I also highly recommend that you purchase the Vivarium Novum workbook to consolidate your learning: volume I for chapters I to XIX, volume II for chapters XX to XXXIV.

GREEK
For Greek, we will use the Logos method. It will be up to the student to obtain a copy of this manual.

A LA CARTE COURSES
However, I am attentive to pupils and students who are waiting for more conventional methods, particularly in the context of preparing for the baccalaureate, the competitive examinations for the grandes écoles, or even the agrégation. Version, theme, explanation of an old text: all these exercises are well known to me for having practiced them for many years.

It is also possible to build a course based on your desires (excluding erotic texts and magic manuals). Do you want to follow one method rather than another? Discover a particular author? Tell me! Be careful, however, to remain realistic! We do not tackle Xenophon or Titus Livius without a solid level.
