Beginners class for aspiring Journalists/creative writers - taught by a qualified Journalist with BBC experience

Everyone learns differently. That's why I teach the way you want. You decide what you want to learn and how, including when your lesson takes place and how long it lasts. I teach creative writing to anyone who wants it, regardless of age, online or at my home in Velp. I can help you write fiction, nonfiction, poetry, song lyrics or theatre text. I can teach you writing techniques or we can work on a writing project. Whether it's a book, blog, fan fiction or thesis, I can help you. Anything is possible. I am a trained writer and a second-degree teacher. I have over 10 years of experience in education and have been teaching creative writing, literature, art history and other subjects at a small secondary school for a number of years, where I am also a team member. I write teaching materials that are used at various schools in secondary and higher education. I have a lot of experience with innovative education and one-on-one teaching. Worldbuilding is the art of creating settings for your stories, whether they be written and published, or role-played out by a Dungeons and Dragons or other TTRPG group. Stories are fun, but they’re funner if you build the world in which they take place well. I can help you with that, especially when it comes to creating compelling, realistic, and/or thematic fictional histories, politics, and societies.

These interactive, informal, and supportive online classes are aimed at students of any age (above 7 years) who wish to write poetry, short stories, or creative prose (such as life writing). This includes beginners who are keen to learn basic writing skills, and those with some experience wishing to develop their practice and learn more, including students of English and creative writing at school, college or outside of formal education. Although we will touch on key grammatical terms, the focus will be on your creative expression through the written word. In these classes, which will be tailored according to age, experience, needs, and areas of interest, students will learn the basics of writing short stories, including flash fiction; poetry, including free verse and traditional forms such as Haiku and sonnets; and creative prose, including life writing or short creative essays. You can attend as many classes as you like, and together, we will build your skills and understanding of creative writing, including identifying the stories you want to tell. The classes will be a mix of presentation, 'warm-up' writing activities, discussion, reading and analysing key texts, main writing activities, and redrafting, editing and proof-reading your work. For those wishing to get published, there will be additional optional support available, such as detailed editing and mentoring advice, as well as hints and tips on developing as a writer. Bring what you need to me, and we will shape the classes together! I hold a recent DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, and parents or guardians of students under 18 years of age are welcome to meet the tutor first, and/or sit in on the classes.
