CLASSICAL GUITAR AND PIANO MUSIC LESSONS!

Pianist and choir director with 20 years of experience, I offer singing and piano lessons in different styles. Singing lessons focus on breath control, breath development, posture, vocal technique, intonation, as well as performance and expression on stage. The students have the opportunity to sing pieces chosen by themselves and/or guided by me (accompanied by my piano). Private and group lessons are available, with a repertoire-building approach. In addition, I offer coaching for recording sessions and artistic development.

I am an eclectic and curious musician, before any contrabassist. I am also a composer and arranger. After a master of sociology I make the decision to train myself professionally; I return simultaneously to the conservatory of Agen in jazz and conservatory of Bordeaux in classical to learn bass. Then, in 2014, I confirm a National Superior Professional Musician Diploma at the Pole Supérieur Paris Boulogne Billancourt through the training at the Didier Lockwood Music Center. I was trained retrospectively by Jean-Paul Macé, Kent Carter, Gilles Naturel, Marc-Michel Lebevillon, Cristian Diaz, Jean Michel Charbonel, Chris Jennings, Cristophe Dal-sasso, and Carine Bonnefoy (for writing). All these people have nourished my love and passion for music, which remains for me a long way to explore in search of new knowledge. It is the diversity of cultures and the wealth of knowledge that drives me to continue to study everything within my reach. I'm interested in jazz, classical music, Indian music, rock and electronic music ... I hate taboos and separations between the musical worlds and I think that everyone wins to share their knowledge and their modes of operation. My way of thinking about learning Music: I prefer to stay on a principle of pleasure and sharing specific to music. I find it important to adapt to feed the motivation of the student, especially for young people with whom it is very important to have a fun approach. Too many students leave demotivated classes of music schools or conservatory; that I practiced for 5 years (since despite my criticisms I still have a prize of jazz conservatory and I followed the training to obtain the DE of jazz which is a diploma of pedagogy). This involves learning the mechanisms based on improvisation, understanding chords, rhythm and melody. Regarding the repertoire I am based on the culture of the students, after all they are the main concerned! So the choices of the pieces depend on the desires and the tastes. The mode of learning depends on the musical style approached, for example I will not make music theory to someone who wants to play the AC / DC (unless he wishes) conversely a person who wants to address jazz can hardly do without notions about harmony. The purpose of this approach is to develop the independence of the student. The teacher is there to accompany the student at the beginning; he must not become a guardian who can sometimes be transformed over the years into a crutch! This is my way of seeing pedagogy!

I offer guitar lessons based on a benevolent pedagogy and which will adapt to your needs and evolve according to your rhythm. My experience of more than 15 years of guitar, and my practice of music as a multi-instrumentalist (percussion, piano, trumpet...) for 25 years, have allowed me to develop a global knowledge of music allowing me to understand the links between theory, musical harmony, rhythm and technique. My goal is to encourage self-expression. I use musical knowledge (theoretical, musical harmony, rhythm, etc.) with the symbolism of the latter to explain how music is a language, in other words a means of expression and sharing that allows us to connect, to communicate, but also to celebrate and have fun. My lessons are totally adapted to the creation of songs as well as accompaniment with singing. My experience: 8 years of teaching (jazz, blues, Brazilian music, Latin and Afro-Latin music...). I give private lessons of acoustic guitar and / or electric for all ages, all levels, at home or at home in Montreuil in a large lounge dedicated to music. I have 15 years of practice of the guitar and I graduated from ATLA, school of music in Paris where I am trained in the professions of current music (basically it's all music except the classical), so Blues , Jazz, Bossa Nova, Pop, Rock, Metal, Reggae, French song, etc. You will not learn with me infernal techniques that after hours and hours of rehearsal will allow you to make the fastest solos in the Paris region. But I'll teach you how to make the notes and chords sound better, I'll help you develop an expressive game. I have a teaching method in place, but it is quite flexible, it can be adapted according to your desires and your level. I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation. If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed). *My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

Hey! My name is Richard and I give private lessons to all levels. For guitar, it is important that you can improve yourself in a pleasant environment in a fun way where your interests are central. Do you want to delve deeper into a certain style? Do you want to create your own sound on your guitar using amps, and pedals, ...? I can help you with all that! Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example.
