My Lessons and What I Teach:

My main job as an Acting Tutor is to spark your imagination and guide you, at your own pace, to a place where you can take ownership over both your craft as a performer AND your own self-expression as an individual.

My teaching practise is about meeting the individual needs of the student:

• If you are someone with the ambition of going to Drama School or pursuing a career as an Actor - I have a programme that I can provide you with that will give you the best possible chance of getting you to the next stage in your career.

• Similarly, if you are a child/teenager/adult who is looking to gain Performance qualifications with the LAMDA Exam Board - I have 3 years experience in preparing students for the Acting, Verse & Prose and Public Speaking Exams that LAMDA offer and would be able to guide you through fulfilling your potential in these exams.

• Equally, if you are someone who just wants to feel you can articulate yourself more confidently in everyday and professional life - I am also qualified to provide you with skills and techniques to support you in making that possible.

Fundamentally, my lessons are tailor made to ensure the needs of the individual are prioritised above all else. I therefore have varying tutoring programmes depending on what it is you want to get out of the sessions.

Methodology:

My teaching is rooted in the belief that Playing is the most effective way of Working. I employ techniques used by Konstantin Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov, Jerzy Grotowski, Patsy Rodenburg, Rudolf Laban and many other practitioners to provide you with a diverse tool-kit that you can take ownership of and use in a way that suits you.

Regardless of what you want to get of the sessions, these 5 main areas of focus remain as a constant at the bedrock my practise in order to ensure a rounded and cohesive training. They are as follows:

5. Stagecraft and Understanding the Theatrical Space

Extra information

Always make sure you come to class wearing clothes you can easily move in. Performing is a physical activity and we may do some exercises that require some ease of movement.

Also always bring a notebook and a pen/pencil so you can take notes.

About Me

My name is Will. I am a Chester born Actor and Tutor now living in Walthamstow, London. I have worked regularly in Theatre and Film since graduating from the BA Acting Course at East 15 Acting School with a First-Class Honours Degree. My career has already seen me perform in theatres all over the UK and Europe including the Manchester Palace Theatre, the Tobacco Factory Bristol, the Leicester Square Theatre London, and the Academy of Art in Berlin.
Alongside my professional work as a performer, I have also spent the past 3 years working as a Tutor, providing Acting and Public Speaking Training, one-on-one, to children and adults. I also have experience working with larger groups of varying ages, providing them with training in Acting, Comedy, Public Speaking, and Self Expression.

• Nationwide German Tour of 'A Christmas Carol' produced by American Drama Group Europe (venues include: Akademie der Kunst Berlin, Schauspiel Leipzig & Staatstheater Kassel)
• Short Film called ‘That Weird Little Silvery Car’ produced by Coronado Film (Winners of the Special Jury Prize at Clermont ISFF), due to be released later this year.
• UK Tour of ‘Testament’ with Chalk Line Theatre as part of Incoming Festival, following their 3-week run at The Hope Theatre in London.
• ‘A Short Ton of Love: Chekhov Short Stories’ at The Drayton Arms directed by Russell Bolam.
• William had also just begun rehearsals for a nationwide UK Tour of 'Romeo & Juliet' and 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' with Three Inch Fools before having to stop due to COVID -19.

Will is also a member of the National Youth Theatre, a National Student Drama Festival Company Member and a member of The Roundhouse Choir in Camden who frequently perform in concert with musicians from all over the world.

I truly think learning Spanish has to be enjoyable and challenging (positively) and my aim is to create a fun and positive learning environment in which you can really thrive, feel confident and tranquilo.

I like to approach my students to grammar structures and cultural comprehension of the language by a variety of methods and sources such as images, videos, interviews, audios, etc. and adjust exercises of reading, listening and conversation to topics related to their particular interests and personal motivations.

Therefore, Spanish, being one of the most popular language, becomes an important tool. In order to speak it, the class is composed by grammar, vocabulary, listening and speaking. Depending on the time and frequency, the student will be be able to articulate thoughts and write them.
It is vital that the language is spoken, hence, depending on the student’s level, the class will be provided in Spanish and English (swapping when necessary).

For those with aspirations in the acting profession Drama School is an invaluable resource. However, application numbers are incredibly high and places are few. The learning and growth that can be achieved on these programs in inaccessible unless you can gain one of those coveted spots.

I have trained across a range of disciplines, studying clown and physical comedy at Ecole Philippe Gaulier before completing the 3-year training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where I received The Cormac Richards Young Actor Award for outstanding performance. Past students include Oliva Coleman, Jeremy Irons and Daniel Day-Lewis.

Since graduating I have worked with Full House Theatre; guest-starred on an episode of BBC1's Doctors; played Toby Belch and Sebastian in a production of Twelfth Night with the Orange Tree Theatre, and played Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol with Half Cut Theatre. Most recently I've been back at the Orange Tree playing Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

I specialise in tutoring French and/or English for school just as well for higher education levels or different age groups. As a native speaker in both languages and as a linguaphile who took interest in learning other languages such as Spanish and Arabic, I am aware of the struggles that might come with attempting to learn a new language. For my students, I would start off by evaluating where they are at in terms of their level of speaking just as well as writing, in order to know what to work on and what they've already mastered. I would provide homework, just as well as challenges to place them in real life situations where they would have to use their skills and knowledge. In addition to this, providing a feedback on what they've accomplished, what needs further improvement and work.
