Trusted teacher: De echte Portugese ervaring! Group classes starting coming September! Meld je aan :) Advantages of learning a new language: Learning a new language is fun. But what I’m (and you should be) after is not bilingualism but instead biculturalism. We think by aid of words. Therefore language shapes thought. In part this is because working in a second language slows down the thinking. No wonder people feel different when speaking a second language. And no wonder they feel looser, more spontaneous, perhaps more assertive or funnier or blunter. Studies show that being able to speak another language is generally linked to a more flexible brain, developing the brain’s ability to plan and prioritize. Also it betters our defenses against dementia in old age. Advantages of learning Portuguese: • 250 million native speakers worldwide • 5th most common language in the world • It has been an official language since 1297 • It’s usage is spread over 4 continents (Europe, South America, Africa, Asia) Now business, The pace, duration, frequency and schedule of the classes is totally up to the student to decide. The best case scenario is 1-2x per week depending on both parties availability. Focus on diverse subjects is possible, for example, grammar, diction, reading comprehension, written production, conversational skills. In case the student has no specific requests, together we will follow the guidelines of a trusted book (that I myself bring to the class and the student doesn’t need to acquire). The classes will rely also on bilingual children’s books and audio media. This double edged approach allows for fun learning ways and cultural assimilation. In every class the student will be directly influenced by worldwide Portuguese culture ( music, history, geography). Periodically we will evaluate how the classes are evolving so as to rapidly and effectively shift focus to where it is needed.

Trusted teacher: 여러분, 안녕하세요? 🇰🇷 Do you want to start learning Korean and do you want to do it in an organised way? 🇰🇷 Did you already get started on learning but you got stuck on a particular grammar? 🇰🇷 Are you aiming for a TOPIK 1-2 language exam and do you want to get prepared in as short and effective a time as possible? As a language tutor with over 10 years of didactic experience and a TOPIK level 5 language exam, I can help you overcome difficulties and reach your goals. My love with Korean language and culture started more than 10 years ago thanks to my amazing Korean friends that I made during my first exchange year in Japan. Fast forward to 2016, I spent one semester in Korea as part of my individual research trip abroad to collect materials for my PhD which later turned into another semester of working holiday as an English tutor. This year spent in Korea was my real motivation to start learning the language properly so that I could connect more to the locals. For me this was a very enjoyable, but at the same time challenging process. As a result, I can completely relate to your struggles. That is why I like to make sure that I teach my students in the way that I wish I had learned when I was a beginner. I can assist you with grammar, pronunciation, and script (but also hanja and cultural notes) up to a TOPIK level 1-2. If you have a favourite vlogger, comedian or song that you want to translate in class, that is also no problem: my classes are very open to your input to turn your progress into a really personal experience.

Reza - Delft29€
Trusted teacher: I have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and currently I work as a post-doc researcher in aerospace Engineering faculty of TU Delft. I have ample experience in teaching all the courses related to Engineering such as mathematics (algebra, probability, calculus, differential equations, and advanced engineering mathematics), Mechanical engineering courses (Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of materials, Mechanical design, control, vibration, Fluid mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat transfer, Engineering drawing, etc), Physics (mechanics, electricity, light, waves, etc), CAD/CAM software (Autocad, Solidworks), and Mechanical design packages (ANSYS, ABAQUS, MATLAB, LS-DYNA). Not all the teachers are good at teaching Engineering and Mathematics courses and informing the students about the importance of what they are learning. That is why mathematical based engineering courses (such as Statics or Strength of Materials) are mostly boring for the students. The other problem that many students have with courses with strong mathematical background is that their mathematical basis is weak and therefore they cannot follow the course. I usually try to start my course from the basics and therefore actively engage as many students as possible in the class (even the weak ones). I also usually try to inform the students about the importance of what they are learning in the class by giving them some examples. This makes them more inspired and interested into what they are learning. If you have extra questions before starting a class, don't hesitate to ask me :)

Valentina - Rotterdam42€
Trusted teacher: Ciao! I have been teaching Italian for the past ten years. I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I will customize my materials to your interests, needs and desired pace. And because you are learning from a native Italian you will also learn about Italian culture and history. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules. I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien…” When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling and we will go on “talking walks” because when you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

Alex - Rotterdam45€
Trusted teacher: Through his studies in Rotterdam, Alex had the opportunity to learn guitar with teachers from different backgrounds and influences (classical, latin, jazz, flamenco, Turkish, Indian, jazz composition and pop). This led him to study his instrument and investigate music through multiple angles and perspectives, accumulating complementary knowledge to fully understand and synthesize its functioning. After achieving a degree in guitar (performance and pedagogy), he started to devise exercises and systems of learning through his own method, refining it as time went on. He then started to teach what he had learned and developed, first in private classes then through music schools. Alex's priorities through the lessons are development, motivation and interest. It's very important that there is a constructive evolution in the pupil's playing, a constant will to move forward, as well as pieces/songs that inspire him or her. It's important that the pupils learn through an efficient and personal method, but also through their own interest and repertoire (wishlist). In a teaching lesson the focus is put on : - guitar posture, technique and sound - timing and rhythmic feel - strumming and grooves - interpretation - theory and knowledge of music - improvisation - repertoire (on student's wishlist) There are three dimensions to a student's programme : scores, tutorials and coaching. Having a Master's degree in Jazz composition (Rotterdam), Alex designs the scores himself, making arrangements of pieces / songs in an accessible way, along with his method and exercises for guitar technique. The scores are written with a hybrid notation (music notation and tab notation), and with all the information necessary about the right and left hand. After having agreed on the pieces / songs to be worked on, the relevant score is shared and given at the lesson. The teacher goes through it, while he also plays it live to the pupil for even more reach. He then explains what needs to be clarified in order to prepare any homework. Finally, Alex creates a video tutorial about the piece or song that needs to be learned for the next lesson. This gives extra support when practising at home, in order to avoid any doubt and keep motivation up. A report is then created to keep track of what has been done as well as what needs to be worked on, in order to unlock technical requirements and complete a specific repertoire in a constructive and efficient way. Alex teaches in Rotterdam at home or at the pupil's own location ; lessons are in Dutch, English or French, for all ages and levels. The teacher mainly gives live lessons, where he works with his pupils on specific material (technique and repertoire). If for any reason a live lesson can't take place, it is of course possible to follow an online lesson. Lessons last 30 minutes or 45 minutes, weekly or biweekly.

Mandarin Chinese Language & Culture course - Learn Chinese in a systematic and fun way! (Rotterdam)
Shan
I was thinking, that learning Chinese is extremely difficult, however, thanks to Shan,  this language becomes more and more clear for me. Every lesson is very productive and I feel, that I progress fast! Today, there are numerous teachers, who can teach you Chinese. However, only a few of them can make the educational process so interesting and enjoyable. Luckily for me, Shan is one of them and I am very happy, that I found her. Shan is very precise and corrects every my mistake. She can easily explain how to properly pronounce words with different tones, how to write syllables, the grammar and many more. I like, that with her, I am not just memorising Chinese language, but I do really understand it. Overall, without a doubt, I can say, that Shan is a great teacher! 心💕

Guitar lessons and music theory lessons in Rotterdam (Rotterdam)
Alex
Perfect teacher! I met Alex when I was buying a guitar from him and realised he teaches as well. I'd been self learning music theory and it was all over the place. Alex helped me understand chord theory in a much more practical way and an easy to learn format. Also, after some of the sessions he created fantastic video recording and explained the gist of that session so I could refer to when I was practising. Alex is very knowledgable and also a proficient musician. Certainly recommended.
