I have a Diploma in Script Development from the National Film and Television School, one of the top five international films schools. I graduated with a First Class Honors in English Literature and Creative Writing, specializing in fiction and screenwriting. I have worked for the BBC for years in scripted television, as well as other major London production companies.

I am a former police detective who once worked with victims and witnesses of crime. In 1999 I was awarded the Maryland Governor’s Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Victim/Witness Services. Fond of true crime, I enjoy advocating through storytelling by giving voice to the dead, ignored, and oppressed. My purpose in writing has always been to champion social impact narratives, provoke thought, and effect change for representatives of the BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) community(ies). As a U.S.National Finalist in the Coverfly Screencraft Virtual Pitch Spring 2022 and again in Fall 2023, I am now in the nascent statges of completing my first manuscript for a creative non-fiction book due to be self-published Winter 2024. I would enjoy nothing more than to lend my experience in helping you achieve your goals and the results you so desire.

I write screenplays and have directed films for cinema that I wrote myself. I am currently working on my own screenplays and as a s ript do tor and co-writer on various projects. As a theatre author I am also concerned with how a text sounds - if it does not sound pleasant, it can certainly be written better. As a coach, I focus primarily on giving feedback on the texts you write and I am happy to help you get started with assignments to start writing and/or to shake off the dreaded writer's block. I previously taught playwriting in different groups (CREA, Buitenkunst) and work as a script advisor for professional theater makers. About our coach To be sure: our head coach is at home in all markets. He wrote his first book, the science fantasy Ice, the Lost Planet, when he was 11. The novel was published three years later, which earned Dirk his city's cultural merit prize and items on almost all national TV and radio stations, as well as articles in every leading newspaper and a large number of magazines. Dirk wrote hundreds of press releases for PR agency Oskaar and later for his own PR agency, Badass PR - mainly for films, television series, the hospitality industry and various charities. He also provides numerous newsletters and social media for his clients. Dirk has been a coach since he was twenty – when he was still studying psychology at the KUL – and has written several film and short film scripts as an acting teacher and screenwriter. Numerous radio spots have also rolled out of his brain. The most startling assignment, however, came when Modiphius Entertainment – the largest independent producer and distributor of role-playing games in the world – hired him to write the film script and audio play for Achtung! Cthulhu to write. They were so well received that he is currently reading the complete audio series of Achtung! Cthulhu is finishing. In addition, he is busy working on Iron Sky: The Roleplaying Game, which has been delayed considerably due to the fact that the second film was released much later than expected, production problems, the death of one of the two lead writers and the corona crisis. , but will be released next year at the largest role-playing convention in the world, Gen Con in Indianapolis. As a practicing playwright and screenwriter, I am intimately familiar with the process of narrative storytelling. I received my MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts and B.A. in Theatre from Middlebury College in Vermont. My screenplays have won awards at the Swedish International Film Festival and the Athena Film Festival. Meanwhile my most recent short play, 9.5, won the Theatre Masters Take Ten Festival and was published by Samuel French/Concord Theatricals.

Using my wealth of experience in creative writing, production and publishing, I will teach you everything you'll need to know about your chosen area of writing, from turning an idea into a plan, right up to getting the finished article out there. I can help to bring your poetry to life, teach you the fundamentals of publishing a short story, or even help you to self-produce a play.
