Trusted teacher: In the IGCSE and CIE (Cambridge International Education)curricula, Genetics is a part of Biology under the broader topics of inheritance and variation. It is covered in both IGCSE Biologyand AS/A Level Biology. Below is a breakdown of what you can expect in each: IGCSE Biology (Cambridge - 0610/0970) The topic of genetics is introduced under the following key areas: 1. Variation and Inheritance - Genetic variation: Understanding differences caused by genetic and environmental factors. - Inheritance: - Definition of key terms: genes, alleles, dominant, recessive, homozygous, heterozygous, phenotype, genotype. - Monohybrid inheritance (using Punnett squares to predict offspring ratios). - Concepts of dominant and recessive traits. - Structure of DNA: - Basic structure of DNA (double helix) and its role in carrying genetic information. - Mutations: - Causes (e.g., radiation, chemicals) and effects of mutations on organisms. 2. Selective Breeding and Genetic Engineering (basic concepts): - Selective breeding in animals and plants to produce desired traits. - Introduction to genetic modification (GM), though details are limited in IGCSE. --- CIE AS and A Level Biology (9700) At the A Level, genetics is covered in greater depth. Key concepts include: 1. DNA and Protein Synthesis: - Structure of DNA, RNA, and nucleotides. - Transcription, translation, and protein synthesis. - Genetic code and its universal nature. 2. Cell Division: - Mitosis and meiosis. - Significance of meiosis in genetic variation (crossing over, independent assortment). 3. Inheritance: - Mendelian genetics: monohybrid and dihybrid crosses. - Codominance and multiple alleles. - Sex-linked inheritance (e.g., haemophilia, color blindness). - Pedigree analysis. 4. Gene Technology: - Recombinant DNA technology (genetic modification and cloning). - Applications of genetic engineering in medicine and agriculture. 5. Mutations: - Gene mutations and their effects. - Chromosomal abnormalities. 6. Variation and Selection: - Natural selection and evolution. - Role of genetic variation in populations. --- Summary - At the IGCSE level, genetics focuses on basic concepts of inheritance, variation, DNA structure, and simple Punnett square problems. - At the AS/A Level, the depth increases significantly, introducing advanced topics like meiosis, protein synthesis, genetic engineering, and natural selection.

Trusted teacher: Hi, I am Hatice from Istanbul. I HAVE BEEN TEACHİNG ONLINE AND FACE TO FACE FOR 25 YEARS. I am a native speaker of Turkish and was born in Istanbul. I have been teaching Turkish to foreigners and I have taught hundreds of students from all ages and professions for more than 20 years. I am a professional English teacher but I like teaching Turkish more as it is my mother tongue and it is a great pleasure for me to share its secrets and beauty. While teaching I also love giving some useful information about the culture, people, cuisine, films and literature in Turkey to help you get connected to Turkish culture. I prepare written and verbal dialogues in the areas the student is interested in. I am from Istanbul but I traveled almost all cities, mountains, rivers, lakes in Turkey. I am a person who likes less traveled roads and back streets. Traveling around the world and reading on the areas of spirituality, philosophy, psychology, and literature are my number one hobbies. I lived and worked in London, Toronto, and S. Korea. Living as an expat and learning several languages have helped me having sympathy with my students. Motivation, feeling relaxed and setting realistic targets, in the beginning, are usually the first thing to go. As for my formal education, I studied Economics, International Relations, Western Philosophy, and American language and literature at the university (MA and BA). And after my 40 years old, I learned classical Arabic and Persian and started to study Islamic spirituality at the doctorate level. I taught English at Prep. school at Istanbul Technical University and Yeditepe University and am retired. Ever since I could remember I have been a teacher. Now I only teach Turkish privately and translate classical novels from English to Turkish. I translated 12 books from English to Turkish. I teach Turkish that is tailored for each student. Each student is unique for me and I know that every student has her/his own way of learning. If you are a beginner I give a short lecture about the history of Turkish and its characteristics and help you find your way in this very logical, consistent and elegant language. You understand that Turkish is different but that does not necessarily mean difficulty. From the first lesson, you start speaking Turkish and find yourself in a dialogue. I can teach at my place and your place (all around Istanbul). I use several books using a grammar-based approach integrated with communicative methods to boost the development of all language skills. But we always focus on TALK, TALK, TALK. As a language learner for many years, I know one can learn, improve and take pleasure in a foreign language only by talking and communicating. It is essential to get direct pleasure from what you have learned. My aim is to motivate and inspire you to speak Turkish ignoring minor mistakes and without thinking grammar. I try to keep in contact with my students almost every day through whatsapp and email. And start some short dialogues.

Hello guys! I am a native german who just moved from Stuttgart to Athens. Why you should book my lessons? Well, since I grew up in Germany I speak the language perfectly, but that's not the main thing that makes me different from other teachers. First of all, I know the intricacies of the grammar of the german language inside out and developed a lot of methods to memorize them all. Second, I know that every person learns different and instead of just giving you standardized tasks you possibly are over- or underwhelmed with, we'll discover together how we can help you in the most proficient way. Third, I will help you to overcome the fear of learning and speaking german. We all know the stereotypes: German is sooooo complicated, It's unfun and boring, etc. etc. etc. That is not true. It's not too hard, you can do it and I will help you :) While I easily can teach A1 and A2, I honestly excel at taking students from B1 to C1 to the next level. Feeling stuck at a certain level is often caused by the lack of practice and mental blockades that prevent you from practicing. Let me help you to overcome this. Actually you can even contact me if you already are C2 and I can help you with sounding more natural/improving pronunciation/using scientific language appropriately. The tuitions are held in English or German (if you are A2+ it rather is a mixture of both) and while I do offer online, I prefer the tuitions to be held in person, somewhere in Athens. The first lesson is free, so you can see if my ways of teaching are fitting for you :)

Başak - Maltepe32€
Trusted teacher: I was born in Istanbul in 1983. I started teaching Turkish while studying Turkish Language and Literature at university. I worked in a language school and at universities. I have been teaching Turkish professionally for more than 16 years. I also taught Turkish for 5 years when I was a university student. In 2018, I obtained a TESOL certificate and also began teaching English. I teach both adults and children. Creating a comfortable learning environment for my students is one of my top priorities. If you would like to learn Turkish or English in a consistent and structured way, I would be happy to work with you. I hold firmly to two main principles: creating a comfortable space for learning and building an encouraging atmosphere. My students often describe me as patient, positive, and well-organised. Over time, I’ve found my own way of making Turkish feel easier, more enjoyable, and more practical to learn. I love shaping each lesson around my students’ interests, needs, and learning styles. I adapt my teaching to the needs of students with special conditions, such as ADHD and OCD. In my lessons, you’ll never feel afraid of making mistakes. Before long, you’ll start noticing them on your own and correcting yourself naturally. Even though I use a communicative approach, my lessons are supported by a solid understanding of grammar, as Turkish has a very different structure. I use the course book set prepared by Istanbul University. It follows a strategic approach to learning Turkish and includes all language skills—reading, grammar, writing, listening, watching, and speaking—from A1 to C2. All of these skills are essential for conversation. I teach English for the A1 and A2 levels. The workbook offers many exercises for homework or revision, and I support the book with my own authentic materials. I also use an interactive board that you can view anytime, and you can edit it as well. Repetition-based speaking practice plays an important role in my lessons. I speak English well, and a bit of Italian, and I have also studied Persian and German grammar. I am interested in literature. One-on-one lessons on Apprentus are just for you. Are you ready to see the benefits and start speaking right away? We will not forget to smile while doing fun and interesting lessons! :) Thank you, and I look forward to meeting you!

Trusted teacher: This chapter is designed to explain the Arabic language subject for the Egyptian curriculum in a simplified and comprehensive way, suitable for all levels of students in primary and preparatory grades. It combines detailed explanation with modern interactive methods, with a focus on developing students' skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. My passion for teaching Arabic comes from my deep belief in its importance as part of our cultural identity, and my desire to help students understand its grammar and enjoy its beauty. Therefore, I make sure to use stimulating teaching strategies, such as interactive quizzes, practical examples, and interesting stories that touch their daily lives, which makes learning more fun and effective. In this lesson, students will learn how to analyze and understand texts accurately, in addition to acquiring parsing and grammar skills in an organized and easy way. I also focus on enhancing their self-confidence through practical exercises and applications that support repetition and effective practice. My goal is to transform learning Arabic from a challenge into an enjoyable experience, by providing a positive learning environment that helps each student reach their full potential. I also provide personalized advice to each student to improve their level according to their individual needs. This lesson is not just an explanation of the course, but rather a journey to discover the beauty of the Arabic language and learn how to use it effectively in daily life.

Chess is much more than a game. It is a powerful tool for developing strategic thinking, concentration, creativity, and decision-making skills that are useful both on the board and in everyday life. In my lessons, I focus not only on teaching the rules and theory of chess, but on helping students understand the logic behind every move. We work on improving calculation, pattern recognition, positional understanding, and practical decision-making during real games. My goal is to help students think independently and confidently at the board. Lessons are adapted to the level and goals of each student. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of the game, including piece movement, basic tactics, checkmates, and essential strategic ideas. Intermediate players will improve their tactical vision, positional play, opening understanding, and endgame technique. Advanced players will work on deep analysis, complex strategic plans, tournament preparation, and psychological aspects of competitive chess. During the lessons we analyze games, solve instructive positions, practice tactical puzzles, and play training games with detailed feedback. I also teach students how to analyze their own games — one of the most important skills for long-term improvement. My teaching style is structured, supportive, and interactive. I believe chess should be both intellectually challenging and enjoyable, and I always try to create an engaging learning atmosphere for my students. I am the founder of the YesChess Chess School, where our international team currently trains around 300 students from 35 countries around the world.

I am following a class with Başak to learn turkish. The lessons are held in english. This course covers pronunciation, grammar and free speaking which are also adapted to daily life situations as well as speaking about yourself. I have experienced a very well organized and structured teacher on a professional basis. The teacher gives clear instructions, pays attention to the pronunciation and corrects you when needed, which is crucial for the turkish pronunciation. The course fees contain the tuition as booked and course material as the class is accompanied by a book (workbook and exercise book) and audio files. The books are sent to you in advance, makes it very convenient to take a print out or as a digital version on your tablet/PC/phone. Between the lessons homework will be assigned and checked by her via mail and discussed in the next lesson. So far, I am very happy with the lessons and I am also confident that I will improve my turkish steadily in the future with her. Thanks

Mounir has been tutoring my daughter for a few months (French syllabus, 3eme - Brevet level). She loves the lessons and looks forward to their weekly Zoom meeting. Mounir easily builds a good rapport with his students and makes lessons interesting and fun, building confidence along the way. He is methodical and organised in his approach and makes sure to go over any aspects of the lessons which may have been less well covered in class, leaving the student with a solid grasp of the entire syllabus. He also recommended alternative revision cards and exercise books with corrections which my daughter finds much more user friendly than the ones provided at her school. Overall a very satisfactory experience and we would recommend Mounir without hesitation to anyone looking for an excellent maths tutor.
