I have played the flute for more than 20 years, and have been teaching since 2011. I offer flute lessons to children aged 8 and up, and adults at all levels from beginners to post Grade 8. I also teach recorder to younger beginners- I find this is a good stepping stone for younger children as it's more comfortable for smaller beginners to hold, and easier to make a sound on. Learn to pass exams or just for fun- many of my students achieve highly in ABRSM and Trinity grades, but some prefer not to take exams and this is fine too. Whatever your level, one to one tuition means that I can tailor my teaching to your needs as a flute player, and my teaching takes into account the reasons you learn an instrument, encompassing a wide variety of repertoire. I also teach music theory- lots of students come to me to help prepare for Grade 5 theory, and I also teach higher theory grades.

I studied flute performance and pedagogy at The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Slovakia), The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus (Denmark), and I participated in numerous masterclasses with flutists such as Sharon Bezaly, András Adorján, Ulla Miilmann, etc. I am trained in all styles of classical music, but I am particularly interested in contemporary music. My teaching specialty is using extended flute techniques to help my students discover their best sound more easily and have more fun while learning to play. My name is Aleksandar Nikolaev and I am from Bulgaria. I offer flute lessons (modern and traverso), piano and music theory, all ages and levels are welcome!
