About Me

I am responsible, diligent, hard-working, and able to adapt quickly to new students, always working hard on cultivating the students’ interest in music starting from the first lesson.

Education

At the moment I am a master's student of Classical music program at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, specializing in Piano Performance, under the supervision of Naum Grubert.

I am a holder of a bachelor’s degree in Piano performance from both the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music and Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music.

Experience / Qualifications

My previous work experience includes 6 years of private tutoring, as well as working as a teacher in private music school Masterskaya muzykanta in Moscow and private comprehensive school Innova in Riga in a position of secondary school music teacher, for 2 academic years in total. I did a 1-year long internship in 2 music schools in Latvia: Jazeps Medins' Riga 1st School of Music and Pavuls Jurjans school of Music. My past and present students represent a wide variety of age groups (7-62 years) and ethnicities, so the classes were held in three languages (Latvian, English, and Russian).

I had been practicing pedagogy for three years under the supervision of Augusta Malinkovskaja, Ped.D. My piano performance teacher was Tatiana Zelikman, whose famous students include Daniil Trifanov, Konstantin Lifschitz, Olga Pashcencko, etc. Professors’ classes were focused on the development of piano playing skills with an emphasis on pedagogy. Previously obtained undergraduate degrees included courses in psychology, educational psychology, teacher ethics, innovative methods in education, piano playing methodology, and pedagogical internship, among many others.

I have been playing the piano since I was five. I graduated from a specialized music school in Kiev and now I am a student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I teach classical, jazz and pop music. I have a very positive approach in teaching and will try to generate a motivating environment, as I understand that learning piano can be frustrating for some! My goal is to help you enjoy piano as well as seeing steady progress.

Play only what you like! - Piano lessons for all levels and all styles
Music is Play! and everyone is it's own game. Read, understand and make only the music you like. I think if it isn't fun, it can't be music:) I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music. It's longer than 9 years now! Most of my students learn piano. With the starter ones, I use my own system to equally help them grow all the needed skills: body consciousness (to avoid lesions or bad habits), music theory (including writing and reading) and improvisation. Usually most songs are made of melody, chords and rhythm. From there, I can help you understand how a song works, how is it written, how does it translate to the piano... and voilá! You'll know the song by heart, and will be able to play it a bit different every time, because you won't be following a set of pre-imposed instructions. You will understand how a small system (a song) works. This way of learning can be applied to any song, from any century or style. Understanding is key! Play Chopin, write rock songs, play Monk, Bill Evans, the Beatles, make a lo-fi beat, play Beethoven, play the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars, play video game music, play salsa! bachata and make people dance, laugh or cry. Music is very powerful! PD: I have also experience imparting electronic music lessons in Ableton Live and Max MSP, which is now a very important part of my professional practice. In case you are interested, it is also possible to mix the two worlds and create a any kind of path between piano, synths, beats and home studio techniques. Ask me anything, I'll tell you how I could help!

Previously, in 2018, I graduated from my music Bachelor's at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona (Spain).

Seen Tung
Piano/Music theory/Composition & Arranging lessons tailored to your needs and wishes
Hello, this is Seen! I am a pianist, composer and arranger from Hong Kong, currently studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I am offering piano and music theory lessons tailored to your needs and wishes. Perhaps you are an enthusiastic adult beginner, or you want to pick it up again after not touching the instrument for some time? Or perhaps you are looking for a teacher for your child? I have been giving music lessons for the past 9 years to students at different levels aging from 5 to 60. I understand that we all approach music in various ways and everyone needs different styles of guidance. I am looking forward to getting to know you and experiment with how I can help you along the way. Perhaps you want to play pieces from the classical repertoire? Or perhaps you want to acquire the skill of learning your favourite pop songs by ear, or learn to read lead sheets and chord symbols? Perhaps you want to learn to accompany yourself singing? Perhaps you want to learn improvisation over chord progressions? As a musician grew up with classical music training and later moved on to explore jazz and pop, I enjoy helping you to deepen your understanding about different styles and to have fun with playing! Perhaps you’ve always wanted to improve your piano technique, but get turned off by studies and scale practice? Perhaps you wish to acquire a stronger sense of rhythm or a more sophisticated control of sound? In my experience, advanced technique comes along with a tension-free body and mental space, and we can work on that together. I also find creating unique musical exercises that adapts to students’ needs makes the learning process more enjoyable. Perhaps you would love to integrate music into your daily life, but find it challenging to keep the momentum and interest in a long term? I try to structure our lessons so that students can see steady progress. I also understand that incorporating a habit can be a tricky part, so we can also develop study and practice plans together and explore ways to make your practice time more efficient. Perhaps you not only want to learn the instrument, but are also interested about the theories behind the music? Perhaps you want to learn some basic arranging skills and write for an ensemble that you play with? Perhaps you want to try composing your own music? As a composer and arranger, I would also love to share my experience on these subjects with you. Music is an enormous universe and there are always new territories to explore. I’m still a student on this journey, and I’m more than excited to share my experience and accompany you on your way!

Saba
Jazz Piano, Improvisation, Comping, Harmony, Rhythm
I am a graduating student at Conservatorium van Amsterdam studying jazz piano under the supervision of the masters in the school. I have experience in teaching beginners how to start improvising. You can trust me, I will push you and make you learn it. Improvisation can be learned if the right tools are offered to the beginner. I know what methodology works for upbringing a beginner to start improvising, swinging, composing a tune. I can guide through all the scales that jazz musicians use, common chord harmonies used by Bud Powell, Mccoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock - and most importantly ideas behind it; or you might think you know scales and can't use them in creative way, I will teach you how to make it a logical language. Swing is the most important element in improvising in a jazz context, and I will guide you on how to practice getting the swing feel, that drives jazz music. Generally, I give lots of assignments, papers, so it would be nice the student knows how to read sheet music. If you are a beginner or intermediate who needs a push to get to know common, complex improvisational, compositional, harmonical ideas, contact me. If you are an intermediate/advanced level, our lessons might be even more adventurous, pushy. I will share everything I know. Looking forward to meeting you :)) feel free to contact me for inquiries.

Recorder, flute and piano lessons, from medieval to contemporary music for all ages
“An exciting and versatile young recorder player, committed to pushing the boundaries of his instrument” (Erik Bosgraaf, 2021) Hello! I am a professional recorder and flute player with a passion for both early and contemporary music, offering lessons on the recorder, flute, piano and in music theory in the Amsterdam area and online. I graduated from a Masters in recorder at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Cum Laude, with a scholarship from The Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Previously, I graduated from the Royal College of Music London with a First- Class Joint Honours Bachelor’s degree in Flute and Recorder. In 2021 I was a finalist for the Moeck/SRP recorder competition as part of the London Early Music Festival. I am an encouraging and dedicated teacher who believes that effective practice, rather than talent, is at the heart of any musical development. I share my expertise in how to practice well, varying your approach to make different connections rather than just repeating things - this also helps to keep practice interesting! I am also keen to help each student find their own voice and expression through music, tailoring lessons to each students needs and goals. I have specialist knowledge of medieval, renaissance and baroque music, and can help students to develop skills in historical performance and ornamentation/improvisation. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Barney
Composition for Beginners & More Experienced Composers, Harmony, Counterpoint, Orchestration
Barney's Teaching Manifesto: Dear Composer, The only true teacher is hearing your works rehearsed and performed. This is the most important element to realizing your destiny, but if you have come here, you probably do not yet believe it. Teachers will keep you trapped in the belief that you do not have what you already need. But everything you need you can get on your own. I cannot teach you anything, or rather, I can teach you everything but composition itself: You are the final expert on your own works. A teacher is a shortcut. And when we take shortcuts, we must always go back. But this is not a bad thing. Going back is a way to go forwards. If you have tried to advance through the no-teacher method and you feel that you cannot wait any longer, then perhaps it is time to try the teacher method. You are the king, queen, or ruler, shall we say. I am just your advisor, should you so choose. I can tell you what I think, I can warn you of pitfalls, and I can even stop you for a moment in time. But it is you, dear composer, that must choose. I cannot teach you to be what you already are: The Composer. Sometimes my advice may be of help. And other times it won’t be. And then one day you must rule your kingdom on your own. Let’s hope that that day arrives very soon. I seek students who are hardworkers, strong-willed, or a combination of the both. Composition requires an obscene amount of work and determination. We live in a world that seeks our silence and complaisance. The act of completing a piece is itself a declaration of war, because the amount of effort and energy required to bring this child into existence is unfathomable to the general public. With Eternal Love from my Compositional Pen, Classes for Beginners 1)Composition (60 mins) 2)Introduction to Composition (60 mins) 3) Introduction to Composition & Harmony (90 mins) Prerequisites: 0-3 years of composition experince 3 years of instrumental study Classes for Composers with Experience 1) Composition (60 mins) 2) Composition & Harmony (90 mins) 3) Composition & Counterpoint (90 mins) 4) Composition & Orhcestration (90 mins) Prerequisites: 3+ years of composition study with a teacher OR 5+ years of self study in composition If you feel that I can be of assistance for a short time on your compositional journey, then you may contact me to arrange a trial lesson. If we deem that it is a mutual fit, then we can work together for a period of time. Have a great day,
