I am a half-Japanese and half-Australian lawyer based in Leuven, Belgium. As a former Japanese-to-English translator and English-language tutor, I have years of experience teaching English to students aged 5 to 50 as well as cross-cultural communication skills.

I am committed to working with you to support your conversational fluency and confidence in English and/or Japanese with sessions designed to be practical and to meet your specific objectives, such as but not limited to:
• (Japanese and English) beginner's lessons designed to help you retain new vocabulary and phrases;
• (Japanese and English) everyday conversation practice to improve listening comprehension (in a US / UK / Australian accent);
• (Japanese and English) developing cross-cultural communication skills;
• (English only) maintaining your advanced English-speaking skills; and/or
• (English only) practicing professional / business / legal English.

Note: I speak very basic French, Spanish, and German – if you are a Native speaker of any of these languages, I would be happy to support you as best I can by translating any relevant terms into Japanese / English during our lessons.

I believe that language is a powerful tool today. Not only does it help us understand the world from a different perspective, but it also teaches us the culture of the people who use it. I have had the opportunity to work with teenagers for 5 years now as a student associate in a science center, as a mentor and a lecturer in a different field. What I have learned from that experience is that first and foremost one must become a friend with their student, to understand their needs and their attitudes. I will do my best to make the classes fun by combining audio and visual material in my teaching. My field of study is Social and Cultural Anthropology.
