Beginner Flute Lessons - all ages and abilities welcome!
From 33.26 € /h
Have you always wanted to learn the flute but never knew where to start? Are you a student confused by your school lessons and wanting a little bit of practice outside of class? My name is Sachi, I'm an American-trained flautist, and I'd like to make learning an instrument accessible, fun, and easy for musicians of all ages and abilities.
I am a 3rd year student at the University of Bath, but I first picked up music when I was 12. Growing up in America, I had the opportunity to participate in marching band, concert bands, wind ensembles, and orchestras. However, it was only when I began taking private lessons that I realized how incredible and transformative music can be. My lessons instilled a sense of discipline, confidence, and love for the arts that I would now like to share with you.
This course begins with the basics, but can be adjusted for whatever level you are at! Items on the course include:
- Flute set up: hand position and stability
- Beginner's guide to reading music
- Sight-reading
- Tone and the 'sweet spot'
- Breathing
- From Classical to Baroque to Modern and everything in between!
- Flute music from around the world
- Extended techniques (singing and playing, harmonics)
- ABRSM prep
If you have any questions feel free to get in touch. Please provide your own flute (if you would like advice on purchasing a flute, let me know!). Music stand, flute stand, and beginner practice books would be helpful but can be purchased at a later date or lent from me.

About Me
- 20 year old University student
- 8+ years of experience in music ensembles, private study, competitions, and ABRSM
- 2+ years experience working with children
Hi there! I'm originally from the USA, but I'm in the UK for my studies. I'm excited to share my love of music for anyone just starting out on their instrument.
My teaching beliefs:
- Patience and keeping an open mind
- Teach holistically: music is more than the notes on the page! It is the history behind the piece, the breathing you choose, the placement of your hands... Everything must be played with understanding and intention!
- Master the basics before moving on. Breathing, tone, and finger techniques can be practiced daily to ensure that when you move on to more difficult pieces of music, it feels like a breeze.
