Présentation
A singing teacher since 1998, I have always studied vocal technique, musical language, and body awareness.

In my perception, studying singing is a gift. It's an opportunity to expand your self-perception and use your voice to its fullest potential in a healthy and creative way. Singing can elevate the body, emotions, intellect, intuition, and the ability to express, connect, communicate, and move. It's an invitation to the world of art.
Education
I hold a postgraduate degree in Creative Processes in Popular Music - Composition, Arrangement, and Improvisation (Souza Lima School of Music, 2016, Brazil).

I studied classical and popular singing, musical perception, harmony, improvisation, arrangement and composition. Guitar and piano are my complementary instruments.

I also attended many workshops with international teachers as Thomas Adam (Anthroposophy); Linda Wise, Pascale Bel and Margaret Pikes (Centre Artistique Roy Hart); Meredith Monk (Vocal Performance); Bobby McFerrin group (Circlesongs); and I completed the "Somatic VoiceworkTM The LoVetri Method" (Level 1) training course with Jeannette LoVetri.

I am also an internationally certified Yoga teacher (QCI, AYUSH Government of India).
Expérience / Qualifications
A singing teacher since 1998, Ilana worked in music schools for 8 years, when she began teaching exclusively in her own studio. She also taught Popular Singing at Mozarteum College (FAMOSP / São Paulo), where she was responsible for developing the course's curriculum.

A singer and singing teacher from São Paulo, currently living in Lisbon, she began her career with Barbatuques, a body percussion group. She has worked extensively with composers including Rubens Nogueira, Vanessa da Mata, Zeca Baleiro, Guinga, and Breno Ruiz. Alongside Eduardo Gudin, with whom she worked for 14 years, she sang with Arrigo Barnabé, Elton Medeiros, Márcia, Paulo César Pinheiro, Paulinho da Viola, Paulo Vanzolini, and Toquinho, and recorded the CD "Um jeito de fazer samba" (2006), the DVD "Eduardo Gudin & Notícias Dum Brasil - 3 Tempos" (2011), and the CD "Eduardo Gudin & Notícias Dum Brasil 4" (2015), nominated for the 17th Latin Grammy Awards.
Awarded by the Cultural Action Program of the State of São Paulo, she produced the solo CD "Bangüê" (2010), nominated for the 22nd Brazilian Music Award, and the music video "O Trem" (2011). Awarded with the Funarte Brazilian Music Award, she performed, alongside the trio Improvisado, on the Pelo Teletipo tour (2014) in 5 capitals of Brazil. In a duo with pianist Cristovão Bastos, she released, through the record label Biscoito Fino, the album Acariciando, the music video Uma Canção Inédita and the animation Odalisca.

It is never too late to start or resume learning piano! My teaching experience makes me a witness to this.

Perhaps you came looking for piano lessons because you wish to be able to play some particular pieces, or to develop specific skills. Or maybe you don't know what your goal is yet, but are fond of the sound of the piano and want to dive into this wonderful instrument. Whatever the case, I am looking forward to hearing from you and discussing your next step!

I try as much as possible to tailor the work with each individual student aiming at the goals set and the student's musical tastes. This becomes more the case the higher the student's level of experience. Nevertheless, beginners are also encouraged to suggest music for themselves to learn.

The work on pieces is combined with other important activities designed to develop finger dexterity, hand coordination, rhythmic sense, music reading, playing by ear, etc. The Cortot, Hanon and scale exercises are some of my frequent choices for the technical work.

For young beginners, I defend a no-book approach during the first 2 or 3 months, for three main reasons: it makes learning more fun, it unlocks our creative potential and it allows us to explore the instrument rather confidently and freely. Instead of learning how to read right from the start, students have the opportunity to play games, listen to music, sing, compose, and improvise over backing tracks, developing the core skills necessary for any musical activity later on. After this period, it is then time to introduce them to a method book. The one I recommend the most is Piano Safari.

For teenage and adult beginners, the activities described above are selected and adjusted, and theory concepts may be introduced at an earlier stage. If desired, graded level series such as the RSL Classical or Contemporary Piano, among others, may be opted for.

Please notice that my scheduling may not always be up to date on this website, so the best way to know my availability is sending me a message. Feel free to get in touch for any other questions as well!

Looking forward to meeting you soon,

Rodrigo

My lessons focus on awakening in the student a desire to better understand the world of music, and above all - to develop a taste for musical expression, whether it's through the classical school or the improvisation or pop school.

In order to achieve this goal, I take special account of the fact that music is not only a great entry into the world of creativity, but also a unique challenge, which gives us a new vision of ourselves, and teaches us self-love, patience and problem-solving. I combine this with a technical knowledge that can be adapted to students of any level of experience, as well as a willingness to plan lessons according to the student's project. I often add musical analysis and theory to my lessons, which can unlock and clarify many of the "secrets" of what we play. I can teach in Portuguese, English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

I've been teaching for over a decade, having trained students from the age of 2 to 70- amateurs and professionals. As a musician I have participated in International competitions and graduated from the University of York.

I teach both in my own home and at the student's home, for a fee, and online.
