About Me

My name is Irma; I am a social, energetic, positive-thinking, and adventurous person with a lot of international experience in many different areas.
I enjoy working with all age groups and all levels. Classes will take place via Skype. I don't use certain teaching methods, but I like to structure the lessons. The student indicates what he / she wants to learn and I will always translate these wishes into tailor-made lessons.
The lesson should feel like a party; I believe that with a good dose of humor you get the best out of yourself and others.

I studied Communications at Fontys University in Tilburg, The Netherlands.. I graduated in 2009.
After that, I studied Spanish as a Second Language level C1 at the Miguel Cervantes Academy in Madrid, from which I graduated in 2017.

My love for languages started a couple of years ago when I realized how valuable it is to be able to express yourself fluently in different languages. During my previous job I worked a lot with volunteers. Often these were volunteers who had not mastered the English or Spanish language. This gave me the motivation to help them with all their questions while working; sometimes these were questions about speaking skills, about culture, and other times about their grammatical questions.
Dutch is my mother tongue, the language in which I currently write articles, and also the language that I taught, among others, my Guatemalan husband.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.
