About Me

Born in Belgium, grew up in Rwanda and Kenya, went to primary and secondary school in Belgium, and moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, when I was 20 years old. I went on to Monash University South Africa to get my bachelor degree in International Studies. I have been working in sales in Johannesburg for 8 years and in Brussels for 3 years. Today, I live and work in Brussels, and I’m on my path to become an English teacher, focused on language schools and business English. I have 3 nationalities, Belgian, British, and Rwandan. I have travelled quite a bit, and I have a passion for world cultures and communication. I am calm and patient, assertive to make sure progress is made, but always in a light and tranquil mood.

Originally from the UK, I have been working and travelling abroad for the last few years so I understand the difficulties and beauty of learning a new language. Hi, I’m Ross, an analyst and policy advisor for the UK civil service, currently on a yearlong career break. I’ve been a maths tutor on and off since I was a university student.

I have a BSc in Economics and A Level Mathematics and have experience as a teaching assistant at a Secondary School, supporting KS3 and GCSE students and specifically supporting neurodiverse students. I am an American student living and studying in Brussels. My teaching methods are based largely on my own experiences studying French, German and Japanese, combined with careful consideration of the interests and learning style of the student.

The primary and most important motivation in language learning is the desire to understand and take part in another culture. I therefore try to understand why my students would like to learn English, and what aspects of English-speaking culture interest them, whether it be films, literature, music, etc.

Our lessons will be primarily conversations entirely in English (or as much as possible) with corrections when needed. Using your current English level and the kinds of mistakes you make as a guide, we can look at grammar, pronunciation, and other topics to improve your level.

If desired, we can prepare topics and resources ahead of class time, such as articles, movies, books, etc. to give us a theme for the conversation.
