Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform confidently and interpret the music with ease. In preparing for a music theory exam you grasp the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody which is essential for good musicianship. If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades. My classes are for the beginner to intermediate level musicians and I will cover everything you need for music theory exams up to Grade 5 theory.

Hey! My name is Seán, and I am an Irish singer-songwriter based in London with 2 years of teaching experience. I teach a range of disciplines, including piano, guitar, vocals, songwriting, and music theory. Having taught students of all ages and different levels of musicianship, I am pleased to say that I have built long-lasting relationships with many of my students. With an emphasis on creativity and student input; my lessons allow students to discover their own playing style and musical direction. I strongly believe that people learn best when they enjoy what they’re doing, and I incorporate this into my teaching style. I strongly encourage my students to bring their own ideas and suggestions to the lessons; that way they can learn a piece of music that they really like. With a background in classical music, I underpin my lessons with useful technical exercises that encourage dexterity, time-keeping and fluency. Finally, I encourage all my students to learn at least the fundamentals of music theory and sight reading. The main aim of these lessons is to help singers from a wide range of prior experience and ability to further their passion for singing. I am a recent MA Musical Theatre graduate from the Royal Academy of Music and have a wealth of performance experience in the genre. I am also classically trained and have achieved distinctions in classical voice grades as well as a BA (hons) Music degree from the University of Oxford where I achieved the cohort's highest grade for my performance recital in 2022. I have experience performing in operatic productions, another genre which keen students can gain tuition.

I have a Diploma in Music Teaching Performance, a Bachelor in Music Performance and a Master's in Performance Science. I have years of teaching experience with students of all ages and abilities. I strive to make lessons an encouraging and enjoyable environment for students. I set attainable weekly goals to ensure consistent development from week to week, with sensitivity and awareness of each student's individual needs and abilities. I have experience in preparing students for ABRSM exams, competitions and recitals. Together, we will work on building technique through, studies, exercises and pieces. Lessons will also involve developing music theory, musicality and performance optimisation.

I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

I am a Spanish pianist and composer (MMus graduate from Codarts Rotterdam in both directions) with many years of teaching experience, and also very active in performing in various contexts. I give private piano lessons for all levels and styles (classical, jazz, Latin, new age, pop...), as well as music theory, composition and improvisation lessons. My lessons are distinguished by their dynamics, practical approach and adaptation to the needs and interests of the student. The lessons (live or online) take place in my studio next to the Maastunnel, where I have a premium stage piano and a top-quality webcam setup. I speak Dutch at an intermediate level, which is improving every day.

The older I get, the more I love. Especially during these times of immense ugliness and hate, wars and conflict, music- that's always been all about love - is the home I keep returning to. To me, mentoring someone is all about sharing the love for the instrument, thirst about the material, desire to explore new musical paths and respect for whatever happens whilst playing. Hey! My name is Richard and I give private lessons to all levels. For guitar, it is important that you can improve yourself in a pleasant environment in a fun way where your interests are central. Do you want to delve deeper into a certain style? Do you want to create your own sound on your guitar using amps, and pedals, ...? I can help you with all that! Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example. The lessons would take place at my home in Mol or via webcam. If necessary, we can always agree on something else.
