Homework Help & Organizing Workload for Less Stress from an International Student-Teacher

Schools always give a lot of homework for students to do at home. This might lead to some children struggling with managing the homework, doing the homework or organizing their workload. Furthermore, parents do not always have the time to work on this. Admittedly, this is not an easy task and takes a lot of discipline from the student and not being able to do it often takes a toll on the students' mental well-being and their grades at school.
I want to help the students foster that discipline and learn ways to manage and organize all the work that is expected of them. The courses would start with regular help with their homework and just spending time with them working on things, and the faster they improve the more I can teach them skills and tricks they can use to organize their workload and do it all on their own!

I have teaching experience in international schools in Qatar, Italy and the US with students in middle school and high school, having taught the American curriculum and the International Baccalaureates curriculum. Having taught so many different students, from different cultures and families, I have had my share of experience in terms of homework.

Thank you for your time :)

About Me

Hi!
I'm a 21-year-old student studying to become an international teacher. I am Belgian but I grew up in France, where I learned to speak French on a native level and learned Dutch through international schooling and my family. I have C1 level in English (Cambridge) as it is mandatory for international teachers. The subjects I teach are History and Social Studies, for which I have a wide range of knowledge and I am keen to learn even more.

I want to show students and people there is a lot to learn from observing the past and even today's events, and that History doesn't have to be the boring subject taught in schools for the sole purpose of learning dates.

I am pleased to get to know you and your children :)
The subjects of World History and Social Studies are often left aside as they are seen as less useful that the other subjects, but I believe children can learn a lot from observing and learning about what happened in the past and what happens today. I want to share my knowledge about these subjects with them while also helping them managing the knowledge they already have and need to learn. In schools, history is often taught through learning dates and events but history should be taught in the form of a story, which is easier to remember, and the useful information will stick longer. I am willing to help my students with the homework they have as well and teach them some skills in how to organize and manage the work they receive. I have teaching experience in international schools in Qatar, Italy and the US with students in middle school and high school, having taught the American curriculum and the International Baccalaureates curriculum. Thank you for your time :)

Bilingualism and Code-Switching: by popular demand
In these neuro-divergent times, the binary division of "one language or two" in bilinguals is perhaps due some contestation, which students are capable of providing. I have always found bilingual production models (and the ubiquitous Powerpoint slide) that university teachers provide a hindrance because of their lack of explicitness and discussion - they are just not relatable as presented nor do they provide much information or examples for monolingual students. Code-switching, a by-product of bilingualism, is now a term that is even found in minority-ethnic neighbourhood grafitti ("can white people code-switch" a found example). Please note that this is a linguistic term, used for switching between two languages, and not between local or social varieties of English. My personal position is that there is no such thing as bilingualism: there is always a language that suffers attrition, and one language that prevails, mostly because of its prestigious standing over the other language. On the other hand, a child exposed to more than one language cannot be truly monolingual. For this course (very popular at universities around Europe both at undergraduate and postgraduate level) we shall go through the terms used to discuss bilingualism, in detail, and then discuss, with the help of published books and articles, who can be considered bilingual (or are we all, one other language lying dormant?). Can bilingualism be defined by the speaker, instead of the "community"? Can it be imposed by the State? Does a bilingual brain function in the same manner as a monolingual brain? These are research questions that emerge as dissertation or thesis topics both at undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
