I am currently enrolled to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics at King's College in London. For my GCSEs I received 10 A*s and for my International Baccalaureate I scored 40 points. My specialties are Maths, English, Geography and Economics. I would like to tutor children from the ages 6 to 16.

My goal for my lessons is to help students with their homework, improve their general understanding of the subject and to prepare for exams. During high school I was a member of the National Honour Society whereby I tutored students younger than myself and my age twice a week, thus I have learnt how to better explain things and I know the importance of hard work. I am a firm believer of goal setting and visual learning and I am reliable, flexible and patient.

I specialise in English (British & American) tuition for native and non-native speakers of all ages, and have experience working with:
• young children learning English for the first time
• primary- and secondary-school students studying the English language and its literatures
• adult professionals and seniors wishing to improve their language skills, or develop pronunciation or presentational skills

I have two degrees in English language and literature (B.A. and Mst) from the University of Oxford, and I am also a graduate of the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Diploma program. I've developed a creative approach in my sessions with students that involves applying a student's particular talents and interests (regardless of subject) in the process of language acquisition, along with the simultaneous development of critical skills like close and careful reading, argumentation, written style, and effective communication.

In 2023, I've obtained a Master degree in Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. I've achieved the C1+ levels in English, on the CEFR scale. I have 2 years of experience living in London, where I acquired RP (received pronunciation) and 7 years of experience in the International Academia (Amsterdam). My linguistic background gives me the capacity to explain the sounds and various processes of the language, from a perspective many natives do not know. In teaching, I practice the holistic approach. It is my belief that language is for people of every age and education, but I'm aware that everyone deserves a personal approach. In the first session, we always do a needs analysis and become acquainted, to make sure we click as people and will enjoy working away at your personal language goals.

Over the years, my classes, have proven to raise the confidence levels of students. We practice knowledge in English, on 4 levels of proficiency: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

During my studies in Econometrics at the University of Amsterdam (graduated in 2015, MSc.) and in addition to my job as a consultant, I have always taught mathematics and statistics to secondary school students and university students (HBO and WO) with great pleasure. Since 2022 I work parttime as a math teacher and educational advisor in the Emma Children's Hospital in Amsterdam and besides I teach private students.

About me
My name is Tom and I obtained my master's degree in Finance & Investments from Erasmus University. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm and knowledge about topics such as business economics, economics, finance and accounting with everyone I mentor! During and after my studies I worked at an investor, investment bank and scientific research institute, and I am currently setting up my own company. I have been tutoring regularly since 2020; both to high school students and to adults pursuing a master's degree.

If you are struggling with a specific topic, we can see together what you are good at and what we can best focus on during the sessions. I believe anyone can learn math. And with an average rating of 8.5 for my exam training at, among others, lyceo, I have experienced a lot of others doing the same.

We usually start with some (simple) exercises around the subject to gauge your understanding. This way I can construct a tailor-made approach that guarantees you will see the light. There are, of course, no real guarantees in education. But I can guarantee that after every hour of tutoring, you will be a little closer to the math genius that you really are.

In addition, in the past two years, I have gained a lot of experience in online education. I now have a drawing tablet, an iPad, and an external microphone (worth 300 euros) to be able to deliver the best experience online.

Mathematics, physics and arithmetic are subjects that many people have difficulty with. I believe that with good guidance, anyone can get a good grade for these subjects. During the lessons we look at what the stumbling points are, which I will then explain in the best possible way what is clearest for the student. Exact subjects can be made much easier by applying handy tricks. During the lessons I will convey this in the clearest possible way. Everyone thinks differently and I take that into account.
