I am a trained opera singer with 12 years of teaching experience as a choir conductor and vocal coach, and I continue to perform on the operatic and concert stage. The focus of this class is to learn healthy singing techniques which include breathing, support, posture, and vocalisation, I am happy to work with lyric, classical/pop and musical theatre repertoire - the fundamental techniques of singing are the same and we will be working towards establishing a good foundation so that you can understand your own instrument better.

The language of instruction will be mainly in English, but I am experienced in singing in English, German, Italian and French, so don't feel restricted by way of language as well. No worries if you are an absolute beginner - there is no age/gender limit or pre-requisite. Everyone has a voice, and I would love to help you find yours!

I am a first-language English speaker, with a bachelor degree in law from Singapore, a Masters Degree in Music (Distinction) and Advanced Postgraduate Diploma (Distinction) from Manchester, UK. I currently live in and sing with the opera studio in Biel, Switzerland, where I myself continue to further my skills and actively perform as a musician.

Hi! I'm a firm believer that the experience of singing, and finding one's voice, helps us to know ourselves and the world we live in better. To speak, sing, and communicate well is a something that everyone is capable of, it is a worthwhile journey that is sure to bring much joy.

I am originally from Singapore, and I trained to be a lawyer for my bachelor studies years ago. However, I had always been very passionate about music and was actively involved in performing and teaching it. Whether in operas, classical recitals, choir concerts, recordings, a cappella and musical theatre singing, I was fortunate to have experienced it all. Thus, although I qualified to be a lawyer in 2013, I decided to pursue my passion for singing full-time, and I have since completed my Advanced Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Music Performance in the UK, both with Distinction. I am currently studying at the Swiss Opera Studio in Switzerland, and I continue to perform internationally as an opera singer and on the concert platform. I myself continue to take lessons and learn - for singing is a lifelong refining - but I am dedicated to sharing what I know with anyone who might be interested. Recently performed the role of Pamina (The Magic Flute) in New York City.
Worked as a vocal coach with One Chamber Choir in Singapore.
Worked as a singer at the BBC Radio 4, Daily Service Singers (UK)
Sang as soloist in many oratorios internationally, including the soprano soloist for Brahms Requiem and Mozart Requiem at the Portuguese Summer Choral Festival in Lisbon.

Over the past 7 years I have worked with Biel Solothurn Theater also Oper in Knopfloch ein Zürcher Anhänger a few seasons. I am convinced that all students who want to sing opera, pop, rock or crossover music have no doubt about the basics and guts of the song. It's time for everyone to sing.

They all underlined my pedagogy and my ambivalence of the subjects taught. Being someone who likes order and good work, I like to follow my students carefully by giving them regular homework and a provided follow-up of their progress. I called my teaching approach ELM. Although I do like elm trees, it is in fact an acronym for Effective Language Mastery. I strongly believe that the effectiveness and speed of language learning greatly depends on the learner's motivation. Which is why the type and content of my courses are never twice the same. During the first meeting, I ask a few questions with the intention of discovering your learning type and what drives you to learn. Once this is done, I spend the period separating our first and second encounter building a teaching plan that suits you. Hence the "effectiveness".

Naturally, the usual types of courses - General, Conversation focused, Business, Exam preparation - are available as well.

As language teaching has been my passion for a very long time, my students' goals become mine as well.
