Double bass, electric bass and composition lessons

Hello

I'm a professional bass player living in Amsterdam. I have a passion for teaching and passing on some of the knowledge that I have acquired during my studies at several schools and heard from the musicians I look up to. I've done my bachelor degree at The Royal Academy of Music in Denmark, and I finished my Masters at Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2024.

I teach double bass, electric bass and composition.

Musically I try to be as open as I can. For me it doesn't matter if it's free jazz, traditional jazz, pop or metal as long as it feels good.

I'm a leader of my own group where we combine jazz and indie rock. we will release our debut album this fall.

I'm also a sideman in several groups.

As for composition I have experience with composing for regular jazz groups, big band, string quartet and irregular constellations such as my band with three guitars and three horns.

Some thoughts about teaching:

I believe that the most important thing when teaching is having a good relation to one another and generally just having a good time. If we don't enjoy the process we don't learn.
You should feel comfortable saying how you feel and what you want to learn/don't want to learn. With that transparency I will be able to customize the teaching and balance the curriculum so that I meet your needs while pushing you into unknown territory.

Dear music and piano lover, welcome to my profile page!

My name is Waldemar and I am a classical piano teacher.
I teach young (from 8 years old) and old, individually or in groups.

I received my training from Fania Chapiro in Hilversum and later at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Danielle Dechenne.

Depending on your level, we will in principle cover all aspects of technique and interpretation. You can always make special requests known to me.
In addition, I think it is important to structure the lessons and focus on themes so that you really learn something.

In addition to being a piano teacher, I am also available as a composition, music theory or solfege teacher.

Basles for beginners and advanced students.
I give the base and slaples on the bass.
Nothing is more fun than being able to play something at the first lesson and with me that is possible, otherwise it is so boring.
I teach in Pop, Rock, Funk and Reggae ..

In addition to my performing work as a drummer and composer, I have been teaching drums to motivated students of different levels and ages for over 20 years. As a certified drum teacher (Amsterdam Conservatory), I have my own teaching practice in the Q-factory in Amsterdam East/Oostpoort: Drum Practice East. I gave lessons and workshops to students at the HKU, the Conservatory Amsterdam (pop and jazz departments), Conservatorium Utrecht, DSOP Amsterdam, Tiroler Landeskonservatorium Innsbruck and Musikhochschule Franz Liszt Weimar (D).

Styles: rock, pop, jazz, funk, hip hop, drum 'n' bass, electro, dub-step, reggae, punk, various Latin American styles, metal, crossover, Carnatic music, ambient, drone, improvisation.

possible lesson content:

drums and percussion:
– focus on the student's interests and goals: adjusting methods and pace.
– we work on improving timing, sound, interaction, dynamics, independence, stick and foot technique.
– select your favorite music and play along.
– jamming with 2 drum sets, with guitar and drums or bass guitar and drums.
– expand your drum set with percussion instruments and sound objects.
– learn to read and write notes
– we end the school year with a summer concert for parents and friends.

e-drums and electronics:
– learn to play on an electronic drum set and get to know all the benefits of e-drums
– the use of effects on acoustic or electric drums (such as loops, reverb, delays, distortion, harmonizers)
– playing synthesizers using your drum kit (via triggers)

logic:
– making your own samples
– creating your own music productions
– recording different instruments
– get to know the basics of an audio mix
– creating and printing sheet music

compose:
– learning how a song is constructed
– analyzing and transcribing music
– creating your own compositions using your instrument as a basis

I would like to come to your rehearsal to give you tips about ensemble playing, composing, arranging, recording and production of a demo or album, improvisation, performance and booking.

I'm offering lessons for anyone interested in learning how to improvise, regardless of the instrument you play or the style you would like to improvise in.
Even if you have no or little theory knowledge yet, I have a way of getting you started with improvisation and then teaching you everything theoretical you need to know.

Topics might include:
- Improvising based on the melody of a song or simple motives
- Common song forms for improvisation
- Theory: Harmony, Rhythm, Ear Training
- Jazz specific: Bebop and Modern Language
- Listening to and understanding solos of great improvisers

The Bass guitar lessons are given at all levels from beginners to advanced / professionals. You learn how to play the instrument, with the right attitude and the right technical and theoretical underpinning of everything you want to learn. A somewhat broader music theoretical knowledge can also be taught. Customization is provided to the student's wishes.

The music theory lessons provide insight into how western music theory functions and how it is applied in practice. Exercises are also done to develop the hearing and music theoretical exercises are done on the basis of either piano, guitar or bass guitar. The aim is to understand what the theory behind music is and why it functions that way.

The Guitar (or Piano) lessons are only given at beginners level.
