Ancient Greek Grammar, Syntax, and Literature: Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced

My Ancient Greek class is fitting for learners at any level. Having studied Ancient Greek now for six years, not only in school but also at the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge, I am extremely familiar with the language and its challenges. Using the Cambridge Reading Greek and Greek GCSE textbooks, adapted texts, and even "real" Greek literature where appropriate, I envisage Greek teaching and tutoring that focusses on the necessary aspects of grammar and rote language learning but supplements them with knowledge of Ancient Greek culture, history, and literature to make the language more alive and relevant. I am well-acquainted not only with the requirements of Greek learning at school, particularly for GCSEs, but also with the expectations of university Greek courses. A beginner will come to understand the fundamentals of the language, common vocabulary, and the "philosophy" that underlies grammatical forms and syntactical structures, an intermediate learner will come to grasp the more nuanced and trickier aspects of Greek grammar and reading, and an advanced learner will find confidence in reading Greek texts "in the wild" and the fluidity of translation and interpretation. Classes can be catered easily to the specific learning needs of any individual.

Extra information

A laptop, access to Google Docs, and the Cambridge Reading Greek textbooks (Grammar and Text) and Greek GCSE textbooks will suffice for a beginner and an intermediate student. An advanced learner would do well to have access to the same, though arrangements can be made for the reading of specific texts.

About Me

I am a graduate of the University of Glasgow (Latin/Greek MA joint honours; first [2018-2022) and the University of Cambridge (Classics MPhil [2022-2023]). I believe in the Classical World as a matter of philosophy and seek to promote love of it--its culture, history, literature, and ideas--throughout the United Kingdom and particularly in Scotland. In the summer of 2021, I taught an introductory Latin course to interested members of the Glasgow University Catholic Association which was well-received by all who attended both online and in person. In private, I spend much of my time on Classics-related academic projects, but I also write poetry, enjoy hillwalking and time in nature, follow politics and world events, and have taken up fencing.
My Latin class is fitting for learners at any level. Having studied Latin now for eleven years, not only in school but also at the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge, I am extremely familiar with the language and its challenges. Using the Wheelock Latin textbook, adapted texts, and even "real" Latin literature where appropriate, I envisage Latin teaching and tutoring that focusses on the necessary aspects of grammar and rote language learning but supplements them with knowledge of Ancient Roman culture, history, and literature to make the language more alive and relevant. I am well-acquainted not only with the requirements of Latin learning at school, particularly for GCSEs, but also with the expectations of university Latin courses. A beginner will come to understand the fundamentals of the language, common vocabulary, and the "philosophy" that underlies grammatical forms and syntactical structures, an intermediate learner will come to grasp the more nuanced and trickier aspects of Latin grammar and reading, and an advanced learner will find confidence in reading Latin texts "in the wild" and the fluidity of translation and interpretation. Classes can be catered easily to the specific learning needs of any individual.

Tutoring for Language and Literature Students, University Application Support
Language is an important communication skill that, when used precisely and treated with care, can be so powerful that it can bring even the most disparate of people into common ground. Literature is similar, allowing a look into the minds of others. It is an important reflection of the time and cultural situation in which it was written and allows the reader to have a well rounded view of the society they live in as a whole. I can provide language lessons for people, beginner to advanced students in English and Spanish, as well as Italian. Furthermore, I can support literary studies and offer in depth discussions about texts as well as help on structuring essays and general study habits. Furthermore, if needed, I can provide to students help in writing personal statements for university and in preparing for interviews (most specifically for Oxbridge candidates). It is not needed for a student to do all three options, they may choose to their liking what they would like support on.

French private lessons by university graduate in Letters
Holder of a Master's degree in Letters and endowed with a solid experience in private lessons, I provide French lessons for students wishing to: - consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling - improve their language skills (allophone students) - improve their speaking skills (conversation classes) -profect the written expression - prepare for ECR exams - prepare for the written examinations at the end of the studies (maturity, certificate of completion) - help with the writing of works of maturity (or other works of end of studies), of dissertation - work on argumentative texts - acquire a method to analyze literary texts - learn how to perform bibliographic research The course material is a Google Docs document that I create in which my explanations, possible links, exercises appear. By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing. For help with writing: The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson. For analyzes of oral literary texts: In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage. For the corrections of end of studies work: so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting. Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone. For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages. For adults (FLE): In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website). The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling. Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.
