I have very good knowledge in history, geography, mathematics, English (I am bilingual) and of course biology! (almost all subjects taught). I offer classes on History, Geography, and Political Science, with over 11 years' of experience in these subjects, both professionally and academically. I hold Bachelor's Degrees in both History and Political Science (from the University of Florida), as well as a Master's in Political Science, specifically European Politics (from KU Leuven). I have extensive experience in a wide range of historical and political subjects and have always had a keen interest in history and the social sciences. Additionally, previously I have been a journalist (dealing with Competition Law) and currently am an editor working on a wide variety of subjects for organizations such as the UNHCR and Goethe Institut, among others. This course will explore the history and origins of Creole communities around the world. Students will analyze these communities through the lens of identity, music, and food to better understand the unique blend of African, European, Indigenous, and sometimes Asian cultures, that formed a novel, “creole” society. While special focus will be given to French Creole communities, students will also become acquainted with a broader definition of Creole that can be applied to Hispanic, Anglophone Caribbean, and Dutch Caribbean territories.
