I have graduated with a double master with distinction from both Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen and the Royal College of Music in London. I am also holding the Academist position at the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

I'm José and I've recently graduated from a Master of Performance in Viola at the Royal College of Music in London. I was given the ‘The Houston Family Scholar supported by a Lucy Ann Jones Scholarship’ for this studies.
I was awarded distinction for my Bachelor of Music degree at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Portugal) where I've studied with Pedro Saglimbeni-Muñoz, as well as for my Master in Music degree at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen with Leo de Neve.
I also won twice (2016 and 2018) the second prize at the “Vasco Barbosa” national competition in Lisbon, I'm a former holder of the Calouste-Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship, a regular replacement of the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra since 2013, and I held the Academist position at the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra during the 2019/2020 season.
I'm looking forward to share my knowledge from the past 20 years with you!

I am a professional violinist based in Antwerp, currently finishing a master in pedagogy in the Conservatory of Mons. I propose to teach the violin to children or adults. I adapt as much as possible to everyone, according to what you want to play with the violin :) I am also looking a lot for the best posture, to find the most comfortable way of playing for each student.

The approach of the instrument for beginners can be done in a "classic" way (through exercises, studies, pieces) or more playful. I can also give notions of music theory in addition! Possibility also to work only by ear.

I focus a lot on the feeling, the relaxation and the posture, so that playing the violin is still a pleasure.

Arabic Lute or Ud plays a very prominent role in Arabic music: people call him the 'sultan' of the Arabic instruments.
In these lessons we will approach the traditional instrumental repertoire with original point of view, Egyptian school, Iraqis school and Moroccan school, analyzing ornaments and elements of virtuosity.

First, let's remember what we're talking about. Music is and always has been inherent in all human societies. It has many roles and is a very powerful language. It's a universe in itself...

Music, and the violin in particular, brings me enormous joy every day. In fact, joy is, in my opinion, the greatest source of motivation given to us on earth. So, quite logically, I place it at the heart of my lessons.

It would be an illusion to pretend that learning to play the violin is a simple matter! So I accept the challenge, often neglected, to do everything I can to convey my enjoyment of playing the violin. By the way, as I just wrote, in French you don't say "travailler le violon", you say "jouer du violon". So even though the road is hard, I will do everything I can to make it fun.

My lessons are adapted to all levels, ages and profiles.

Together with each student, I strive to find the most suitable tests, so that everyone learns as effectively as possible and, above all, with pleasure!

I attach great importance to the correct use and well-being of the body. Playing the violin not only involves the cerebral and the emotional, it is also a complex physical exercise! For those who have already had lessons, I try to consciously or unconsciously replace bad habits learned with good ones, and for beginners to immediately install the correct automatisms.

I give individual lessons. But sometimes I bring students together to learn to play together and perform in public. Attending other people's lessons can also be very helpful in gaining a better understanding of the various mechanisms of the violin.
