My name is Bastien, I studied Physics for my Bachelor's at EPFL and a Master's in Quantum Engineering at ETH. During my studies, I was a Teaching Assistant for classes in Electromagnetism, Fluid Dynamics, Analysis, and Special Relativity. I also gave private lessons to students in need before their exams. Through these experiences, I discovered that no matter your level we all tend to get stuck in front of math equations at one point or another. We get lost in the details and seem to be unable to see the big picture, to understand where all of this is going, and why any of it is useful at all. In these classes, I want to help you deal with these issues. It doesn't matter if you are in middle school, high school, or starting your Bachelor's. The goal of these classes is to help you cultivate the skills needed not only to improve your grades but also to be a better problem solver. I will help you develop your passion and curiosity for mathematics. The passion that you maybe never knew you had! We will look at mathematics not as a monolithic entity but as a language. Ultimately, mathematical excellence can be decomposed into four primary skills: memory, patience, curiosity, and creativity. I have helped students prepare for French exams like the DELF, as well as those who are planning to move to a French-speaking country and need real-life language skills. I understand the challenges of learning a language, having learned two languages myself: English and Portuguese, and plan to learn more. I have faced difficulties, hit walls, and overcome them, and I believe that my experience as a language learner makes me a well-rounded teacher. I use interactive resources such as images, videos, and texts to help my students learn effectively. For beginners, I recommend trying out the Pimsleur method, which is a 30-minute audio lesson based on gradual interval recall. This method reviews learned vocabulary at increasingly longer intervals and has been used by the CIA. If you are interested, we can discuss how to use this method together. I offer French lessons remotely through Skype, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams or at the students place. When the lesson is online, I use a platform that allows us to see and modify documents, images, and videos in real-time, which is very useful. Hallo allemaal, ik ben Valerie en kreeg Portugese les van Melissa. Ik raad Melissa zeker aan. Melissa heeft alles in huis om de les zeer leerzaam, leuk , duidelijk en voorbereid te laten verlopen. Na een paar lessen kan ik al een aardig woordje Portugees! Melissa zorgt voor een positieve energieke les sfeer! Naast de thuis lessen zijn er ook online lessen. I'm really glad that I can take bass lessons from Christophe, as a professional bass player, he has really good skills and can adapt easily according to students' levels and preferences. Also, he is really responsible, and he sent the course notes to me very promptly after each lesson, which helped me to memorize better. For questions that I may have about bass, he is also quite responsive, through which I've learnt a lot. I started my yoga journey with Bahar 2-3 months ago with private lessons, and she has been a wonderful teacher so far. She is very attentive, and centers the experience and expectations of the student. Every week or two, we assess how my personal practice is going, and adjust the flow of the classes accordingly. Instead of just telling or demonstrating what to do, she remains in constant dialogue with me in order that I find what resonates with me in terms of movement, pace, and balance. I am very happy with our classes, and would continue for longer!
