Hello, my name is Ricardo and I'm a Portuguese professional opera singer and singing teacher based in London. I trained at the University of Aveiro (2010; BMus & MEdu Vocal Performance and Tuition w/ Distinction) and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2011; MMus in Performance w/ Merit). I'm a certified singing teacher and would love to help you! I teach singing to any age range and in a variety of styles: Classical, Contemporary/Musical Theatre. I teach either at my home in Wimbledon or at the student's home. I'm happy to travel within the London metropolitan area but will adjust the price of the lessons according to the travel costs I incur. My schedule is very flexible and the lessons are to be arranged with the student on a weekly basis. My singing students will be prepared to undertake any endeavour they want to in the music world: I can prepare them to sing for fun for family gatherings, Conservatoire access, ABRSM exams or to sing professionally. I've also had great success with Skype/Facetime singing lessons. These are charged at the same price as live lessons and the date and time are to be arranged between me and the student. My Message to you: My singing teaching is based in objective physical information which you can replicate, memorise and follow. My main goal is to help you build a healthy muscle memory for singing which you can then put to the service of Art. I believe a great technical foundation is at the core of Artistic Creation and a Vocal Technique is the toolbox from where you draw what you need in order to express yourself. Having built my own voice from scratch, I know how to put the puzzle of Singing together and will support you to achieve the same. I'm an honest supportive teacher and I will make sure we enjoy our time working together.

About Me
I have 10+ years of experience teaching Singing at a professional level. I taught in 2 Music Conservatoires in Portugal: the Aveiro Music Conservatoire and the Figueira da Foz Music Conservatoire, where I was also Head of Department. I currently also teach at the St. James Independent Senior Boys' School in Ashford (Surrey). I've been teaching privately for 10 years as well. I am DBS Checked and Qualified Teacher Status Certified. I'm also a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, no. 72724 My Own Training: I trained at the University of Aveiro with Antonio Salgado, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Laura Sarti. After that I studied with leading Welsh tenor Dennis O'Neil at the Wales International Academy of Voice, and I currently study privately in Italy with American teacher Sherman Lowe. I've also had the chance to learn in Masterclasses from renowned singers like Montserrat Caballé, Sir John Tomlinson, Dame Ann Murray, Dame Felicity Lott, Della Jones, Teresa Berganza, Gerald Finley, Stuart Skelton and Dame Anne Evans. Current Students: At St. James I'm working mainly with teenagers who are navigating the tricky process of puberty voice changes. My main objective with them is to make sure they have a solid breathing and supporting technique which will serve them no matter what voice type they end up with after their voices fully change. In terms of tone, we're working towards achieving healthy vowel purity which they will also be able to use independently of where they voices end up after puberty. My private students are of a very mixed background. I recently helped an adult male to successfully retrain as a tenor after singing wrongly as a baritone for years and the results have been thrilling both for him and myself, and he's now singing standard lyric tenor repertoire with ease and beauty. Another recent success case was also with a young tenor who arrived with several issues of lack of breath management coordination, reduced range and who after a lot of work from both sides, is now singing beautifully both Classical and Music Theatre repertoire and has since started being offered solo roles in Musicals. Other than teaching singing, I also have a a track record of successes helping people with speech therapy and recovery from vocal injury: my technical approach is grounded first and foremost in efficient breath management as the foundation for everything. I've helped some of the leading British Sports Commentators to maximise the efficiency of their phonation so they don't harm themselves hosting matches where they have to speak loudly for hours.
