Ahlan wa Sahlan!
Mein Name ist Youssef. Ich bin 1975 in der ägyptischen Oase Dachla geboren. Nach dem Abitur habe ich im Jahre 1994 das Studium der Germanistik in Kairo aufgenommen. Im zweiten Studienjahr habe ich ein Stipendium vom DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) für einen Sommerkurs in Deutschland erhalten. Diesen habe ich in den Sommerferien 1997 an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz besucht. Dort hat es mir so gut gefallen, dass ich gerne in Deutschland studieren wollte. Doch zuerst kehrte ich nach Ägypten zurück, um dort mein Studium abzuschließen.

Im Mai 1998 konnte ich das Studium erfolgreich zu Ende bringen. Im Anschluss daran habe ich durch die Ausbildung zum staatlichen Reiseführer die Reiseführerlizenz erworben. Anschließend konnte ich als Begleiter in einem Reisebüro in Safaga am Roten Meer arbeiten.

Im September 1999 wurde ich als Deutschlehrer an einer Oberschule in Kairo angestellt. Während dieser Zeit habe ich mich für einen Studiengang an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz beworben. Nachdem ich die Zulassung dafür erhalten hatte, musste ich mich schnell zwischen der Stelle als Lehrer und dem Studium in Deutschland entscheiden. Nach kurzem Überlegen, und nachdem ich eine Freistellung von meiner Arbeitsstelle bekommen hatte, habe ich mich für das Studium in Deutschland entschieden.

Im Herbst 2000 nahm ich das Studium der Germanistik und Ägyptologie in Mainz auf. Im Februar 2005 habe ich die akademische Abschlussprüfung „Magister Artium“ erfolgreich bestanden. Diese Leistung wurde 2006 mit dem DAAD-Preis für ausländische Studierende ausgezeichnet.

Am 15.02.2012 habe ich mein Promotionsstudium an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz erfolgreich abgeschlossen.
Danach habe ich als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der JGU Mainz gearbeitet.
