Icon painting with egg tempera, individual classes, historical technique

Egg tempera is one of the most ancient historical art painting technique. It preserved as a main technique to paint orthodox religious icons. It is possible to learn it and paint your own icon. I have 12 years of practice teaching people how to do it. We work together step by step to understand the technique, the way to prepare wooden panel to paint an icon and the techniques of making a good project to make the icon fit to the board. We also learn how to make gold leaf layer on the halos. Your icon will be a real, crafted icon.

If you're just starting and don't know how to get the materials - don't worry, I can share all materials needed to start and learn! Just let me know, what is best option for you! During our sessions, I will also give you necessary detailed advice to buy your own materials, because the best option is to work with your own brushes and pigments.

I was born in Warsaw. I graduated in Art History from the University of Warsaw, where I became fascinated with the art of the christian Orthodox Church and began to paint icons. In 2009 I started studying in Christian East Studium in Warsaw, and then I started working as a teacher of icon painting in 2013, in the workshop "The Way to The Beauty". In 2015 I decided to move to Belgium, where In found in Brussels the Academy of Icon Painting founded by Russian artist Irina Gorbunova-Lomax. I'm currently completing my studies there.
As a musician I graduated from the State High School of Music ‘Józef Elsner’ in Warsaw in the double bass class, and later, from the State High School of Music ‘Fryderyk Chopin’ in Warsaw, where I became a professional musician specialising in the viola da gamba. Currently, I'm studying at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, continuing my baroque music studies, playing the violone with James Munro.
During my artistic career, I had given concerts in Poland, Denmark, Germany and Italy with many groups of ancient, folk and traditional music, notably with ‘Collegium Musicum Bednarska’, ‘Lublin Castle Band “Alta”’, ‘Ærøfolkehøjskole Band’ and ‘Kukawica’.
In 2019, I also began studying instrument building at CMB Puurs, where I build violas da gamba of all sizes.

I'm a painting icons teacher since 2013. I work with adults with individual approach, to tailor my methods to every person's needs and way of learning. During my career as a teacher I worked already with about 50 people, who then started their own artistic work as icon painters - both professional and hobby.
