I have over 30 years of experience playing chess. I am a Latvian Candidate Master with an international FIDE rating of 2059 and an English Chess Federation rating of 2120, and an online rating of 2400, reflecting a strong competitive level. I particularly excel in blitz and rapid formats. My greatest competitive achievement is winning 1st place at the English Open Women & Girls Rapid Championship in 2019.
I also have over 15 years of experience teaching chess to both juniors and adults. I have worked with students across the UK, supporting their steady progress and helping several achieve strong tournament results and qualification for higher-level competitions.
I teach beginners the fundamental concepts, rules, strategies, and tactical ideas of chess, while also helping intermediate and advanced players refine their technique, deepen their opening and middlegame understanding, and develop clear, effective winning game plans.
I am a Doctor of Psychology and researcher with extensive experience in teaching and mentoring. Since October 2016, I have successfully tutored undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students, as well as professionals, in areas including Psychology (AS, A-level (AQA or other exam boards), and degree level), Statistics, Data Analysis, SPSS, Jamovi, JASP, R/RStudio, Research Methods, and in support of research projects, theses, and dissertations.
I specialise in Clinical Psychology, particularly reading disabilities and dyslexia, though I also have strong knowledge across other areas of psychology, research methodology, and data analysis, with expertise in SPSS.
I offer individual, live, one-to-one online sessions via Zoom, tailored to your learning goals. I can also recommend relevant literature and provide resources from my own curated database to support your studies and research.

Madara was clear, knowledgeable, and very supportive. She explained complex analyses in an easy-to-understand way and was a huge help with my dissertation. Highly recommended!
Clearly Madara is an expert in statistics, this was blatantly obvious from the start (I mostly just looked on like Homer Simpson).
Very helpful and reliable too, can sincerely recommend Madara.

Excellent teacher. My 7 year old girls loved their session with her.
Super helpful at helping me navigate JASP to analyse data for my dissertation - saved me HOURS of time. Thank you.
