La leishmaniose est une maladie parasitaire causée par des protozoaires du genre Leishmania. Elle est transmise à l'homme et aux animaux par la piqûre de phlébotomes, de petits insectes proches des moustiques.
La maladie est présente dans de nombreuses régions du monde, notamment en Amérique du Sud, en Afrique, en Asie et dans le bassin méditerranéen. Le traitement dépend du type de leishmaniose et peut inclure des médicaments antiparasitaires comme l'amphotéricine B ou des antimoniaux. La prévention repose sur la lutte contre les phlébotomes par l'utilisation de moustiquaires, de répulsifs et le contrôle des réservoirs animaux.
