I am an experienced and enthusiastic High School Mathematics Teacher. I am student oriented and work hard to make a real difference to my student’s Mathematics achievement.
Mathematics can be a challenging subject for many students. I believe that every child has unique learning needs and for this reason I focus on taking students back to a level with which they are comfortable and then filling in the gaps from there. This leads to improvement and success and with success comes renewed confidence in the ability to tackle more difficult mathematical concepts and problems.
Using visual, animated, practical and interactive technology-based tools, I show students how Mathematics applies to them in their world. By asking students probing questions, rather than simply showing them how to answer the question, I help students develop their own problem-solving skills. This leads to independence and greater confidence in their abilities. With increased confidence comes improvement and success.
It is important to understand that you can learn a lot of maths in a very short period of time. It doesn’t matter where you start, you can get to where you want or need to be.

I have demonstrated skills in catering to diverse student needs by developing programmes tailored to the different academic and social requirements of students. For example, for students in my high ability years 8, 9 and 10 classes I focus on ensuring that they acquire the skills necessary to succeed in senior school university pathway Mathematics courses. On the other hand, for those students who find Mathematics more challenging, I work towards developing their ability to succeed in senior school vocational Mathematics courses.
My maturity and life experience in careers other than teaching give me a first-rate insight into the skills that young people need to succeed in the modern world. I have high expectations for all students. I routinely reflect on my teaching and its effect on student learning, modifying my approach in the light of changing circumstances.
