I am a fully qualified teacher with relevant TEFL qualifications. I have taught all key stages but have specialised in examination preparation for English and History students, although I have also taught lower level maths.

My lessons are fun and interactive and are aimed at the student enjoying the learning process. I have experience of teaching both adults and students of all levels.

I am happy to tutor either face to face or via skype.

About Me

I am originally from Ireland, but have taught in Spain, Russia and Africa. I have two small children myself so I know how difficult it is to sometimes engage kids in learning! With that in mind I keep my lessons lively and interactive. All learners prefer to study with a smile on their face, which is what I strive for.

I also believe that in the correct environment, all students can make progress. This involves identifying the learners preferred strategies and building their confidence.

I have a basic understanding of Spanish and speak competent Russian as well as my native English.

I specialise in History A Level (Edexcel and AQA) and IB. I am an english native speaker with three years teaching experience in an alternative boarding school in Hampshire and work with a distinctive teaching style adapted to each student's needs and personality.

Rather than trying to cram in a bunch of facts I approach history as a curiosity: what makes it interesting? why is it relevant to our lives today? Why, indeed, do they say that history always repeats itself - is it that we can never learn from the past?

These are the kind of meta-questions that will run through our classes most of which will be discussion based and will include homework, short exercises, co-marking and assignment of additional readings to complement your syllabus.

The content of Universal History ranges from Prehistory (human evolution, Paleolithic, Neolithic) to the First Civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome), passing through the Middle Ages (feudalism, Crusades), the Modern Age (Renaissance, Enlightenment, French Revolution) and the Contemporary Age (Industrial and Liberal Revolutions, World Wars, Cold War), with special attention to the emergence of writing and the classical periodization of history.
The Contemporary History course covers the revolutionary cycle that begins with the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution at the end of the 18th century. Key topics range from the crisis of the Ancien Régime, the spread of liberalism and nationalism, to the two World Wars, the Cold War, and globalization, also addressing social changes such as the labor movement, the Second Industrial Revolution, and Imperialism.

I offer individualized and innovative teaching methods. I help students prepare for exams and progress without feeling overwhelmed. I assign additional homework and provide regular progress reports.
