Experience has taught me that it is very important to build a warm, trusting relationship with students, especially the very young ones. Bringing laughter, a sense of humour, games, and creating imaginative stories with music are my motives throughout the lesson.

The goals and character of each student guides the teaching approach I adopt - some students enjoy learning for the joy of music, whilst others prefer to aim for recognised qualifications or grades. In both cases I aim to make learning enjoyable.

I always encourage all my students, of whatever age or ability, to do some simple improvisation, and have developed several ways to facilitate this. I emphasise developing technique and music theory as they make the foundation of becoming a good musician throughout life.

Music is my passion and career and I am offering introductory music appreciation classes as well as advanced courses in music theory and music history in Bruxelles, Saint-Gilles.

I perform in Brussels as a violinist and I have performed classical, early music, and contemporary music. I hold degrees in music from Stanford University and the Royal Conservatory in Brussels where I have a specialized training in musicology, composition, and historical music. I teach students with a mix of ear training and more traditional approaches to reading music and learning music theory. High quality lessons for the serious learner and an opportunity to practice English! In addition, I was a DJ with my own radio show in the Bay Area for 5 years! Student of 20, I have always been immersed in the world of music. I did 8 years of classical piano at the academy of Saint-Gilles and since my 15 years I give classes to children wanting to progress outside the academy or just want to have a first approach to the piano. Not having done the conservatory, I give lessons to people being in piano formation, the first 5 academic years. I am used to working with children, so I can give piano lessons to children from 5 years (under 5 years, except particularly motivated child, I do not think that particular lessons of instrument welcome, a collective course of musical initiation seems to me more interesting)
I can also offer my help for music theory classes. I am a graduate of the Academy of Saint Gilles and I know how some children see this beautiful discipline as a torture.

This course is for anyone that's interested to play the saxophone at any level, from the very beginners to students interested in more advanced topics such as improvisation, both in unconventional ways or more founded on the tradition of Jazz.
The course will be adapted to the pupils goals and level, with a demanding but not overpowering approach. The frequency and timing of the lessons can also be optimized to the pupil's necessities: weekly, bi-weekly or monthly (not less).
I believe that the main goal of a mentor should ultimately to make the pupil become his own teacher and establish an empathic two-way learning process.

One-to-one music lessons inspired by the teachings of Suzuki, Havas, Hoppenot, and Galway.

The lessons are adjusted according to age, level, and interests. The most important is that the student will learn in an enjoyable way for them.

It is only possible to take 45 min. lessons when the student receives more than one lesson a week -which is highly recommended for anyone that might want to become a professional musician. Lessons longer than an hour are also possible for anyone over 14 years old.

Other possibilities, a combination of instrumental/theory lessons and prices can be discussed.

Classes description:

I have different study books we can use depending on the level, Wastall, Klose, Voxman, classic duets, jazz duets, Rubank, Horen, Lezen & Spelen, etc.... Plus I can write for you the songs you want to learn.If you have specific needs of topics to learn I will adapt the lesson and material to it. If what you want is to start or develop further in jazz music and/or improvisation, I’m definitely ready to help you!

Beginners:
Start finding the sound of the instrument, where the notes are within all those keys, begin with learning how to read music if you don’t read yet, and find easy and fun songs to play to enjoy the instrument already. I can introduce you to the understanding of basic harmony and theory concepts to help understand better inside music that you are playing.

Intermediate:
We can get to improve the technique of the instrument, reading skills, get more precision, speed, sound and timing and musical expression. Advance the understanding of harmony, its beauty and its possibilities. If you like to work on improvisation we can get to discover how to enjoy improvising with all the technical tools you already learned in the past and enhance that material according to your taste. If you want to start with playing jazz music I can introduce you to first steps and nice and technically comfortable songs to begin with.

Advanced:
At an advanced level it’s very important to understand the direction you want to take and what you especially want to improve. However I can help you perfectionate sound and timing, rhythm, vibrato, etc..., work on the accuracy of the reading and at the same time make it sound musical and human. On jazz music and/or improvisation, expand the vocabulary for improvising, the knowledge of harmony, what you can do with the material you know from different perspectives, increase precision and sense of direction when phrasing lines, learn more jazz standards, help on original compositions. And of course share all the better understanding of jazz music I learned during my years in New York City.
