You're in good hands! As a professional cellist for 14 years now, including as a member of major European and Australian opera and philharmonic orchestras, I welcome all students, from those picking up the instrument for the first time to those preparing for professional auditions.

My primary aim in teaching is to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect in which students can draw motivation to set and accomplish their goals, with my full commitment towards helping them achieve those. Getting the foundations of good playing and good musicianship right is of course a very close and no less important second!

During their journey, students can count on my patience, understanding and sympathy to help them through all challenges. I tailor my teaching style to fit all students based on their individual needs and wishes, or those of their parents if they're too young to decide for themselves.

I'm determined to break the stereotype of teachers being failed performers and teach not only by demonstration, but by playing with students as an accompanist or duet partner, even with absolute beginners.

Lessons for students younger than 12 must take place in the full presence of a parent or guardian.

English is my native language but I can also teach in Dutch and German. As a new resident of Liège, I'm working on French!

Students must have their own cello and accessories, including at the very least a bow, rosin, appropriate microfibre cloth for cleaning and a floor protector for the spike. Ideally, students will also have an electronic tablet or some other means to receive digital copies of music for marking and, if necessary, printing.

I try to arrange lessons so as not to conflict with my performance activities, but may have to rearrange lessons (well in advance) if necessary.

For everyone's health and safety, students or their parents are kindly asked to please cancel lessons or arrange to have them online in cases where they are ill but still want to attend, and only attend lessons in person once again when they are symptom-free. Hello! I am an Australian professional cellist now living in Liège.

I’m delighted to bring my skills and experience to Belgium and draw on those from my fellow artists and citizens here.

I love teaching people of all ages and levels, helping them learn and develop as best I can, and firmly believe in positive teaching methods.

I recently graduated with distinction from the Master of Music degree programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in the class of Professor Olsi Leka, and am now seeking to establish myself here as a teacher and performer.

I already perform occasionally as a cellist with the Belgian National Orchestra and performed frequently in Australia with leading orchestras such as the Opera Australia Orchestra resident in the famous Sydney Opera House, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Canberra Symphony Orchestra of the national capital.

I’ve also performed at hundreds of important occasions of all kinds, personal and institutional, and taught at prestigious as well as small schools; all experiences which have been meaningful, each in their own way.

I am a product of different teaching methods including Suzuki and can teach in whatever way the student likes or finds most enjoyable and beneficial. There is no single right way to learn, but I certainly take utmost care to avoid the wrong ways!

Lessons normally take place at my house in the old city centre but travelling may be possible by negotiation.

I am more than happy to teach in English, Dutch or German, and soon enough in French of course too.

My name is Apolline, I am a 26-year-old flautist and I am studying in the first year of a didactic master at the Royal Conservatory of Liège. I love to teach, and I used to be a flute teacher, I even started teaching when I was 17! I am passionate about transmitting my passion, and whatever your level, beginner or advanced, I will always try to bring you the maximum so that you can evolve with your instrument. I am passionate about the body and the breath: I was able to participate and be trained in music therapy in France at the "Léthée Musicale" institute in Lyon, and I also have some knowledge of the "TIMANI" method of body awareness that I was able to discover in Oslo, Norway. I see the flute as a well-being, a connection with one's own body and one's listening. Graduated from a bachelor's degree in violin at the Liège conservatory, I am continuing this year with a didactic mater.
I have been giving private lessons for 8 years. And since last year I also teach in non-profit organization.
I intervened as reinforcement of academy teachers, as a tutor and as a trainer, as the first teacher. Then with adults, after a stop more or less consistent or just to achieve a dream. I was able to acquire during my studies, a great experience of orchestral musician.

I teach children and adults of all levels. The courses are adapted according to the objectives and the tastes of each one. Music training can be approached to discover the basics or consolidate them. All the repertoires can be work: from the classical to the contemporary, passing the musics of films or the variety.
I wish above all to discover and transmit my passion that is the violin. It is a beautiful instrument that requires rigor but that can be approached in joy and good mood.

Solfeggio and body-percussion are tools that serve to improve mental functions, such as concentration, state of mind, self-confidence, motor skills and multitasking, which are also used to work on different musical instruments as well as have useful tools to find good solutions, or smarter solutions to everything in life. 1° Apprentissage du piano:

Ma méthodologie est adaptée selon l’élève et ses objectifs musicaux.

De par mon expérience et mes années d'études à l'académie de musique, j'aime travailler avec des manuels de piano tout en proposant, en parallèle, des outils techniques et personnels qui permettront à l’élève d’évoluer. Selon moi, quel que soit l'objectif, il est important d'acquérir une base technique afin d'avoir une certaine aisance de lecture musicale (différenciation des articulations: legato/staccato, souplesse et fluidité du mouvement du poignet lors de la pratique d'une gamme, compréhension des nuances indiquées sur une partition : piano/mezzo forte/forte). Tous ces aspects enrichiront la manière de jouer une pièce musicale, peu importe son genre ou son époque.

L’objectif du cours est d'apprendre tout en s'amusant et surtout, sans stress !

2° Apprentissage du solfège (formation musicale):

Ma méthodologie est également adaptée selon l'élève et ses objectifs musicaux.

Etant professeure de formation musicale depuis l'an passé, mon but est de permettre à l'élève d'évoluer à son rythme afin qu'il soit progressivement autonome.

Le cours s'articule autour de différents paramètres tels que :

1) L' audition : écouter une série de notes ou de rythmes et être capable de les retranscrire, de les écrire. Comprendre et visualiser le mouvement général d'un son (est-ce que mon oreille perçoit que le son monte, descend ou reste le même?). Percevoir la différence entre un accord Majeur ou mineur (quels sont mes ressentis?).

2) La lecture de rythmes et de notes : savoir reconnaitre les rythmes en les disant, en les frappant et surtout, en les ressentant. Savoir reconnaitre les notes et donc, leur emplacement sur la portée en les lisant.

3) La théorie musicale: comprendre un rythme de manière théorique (ses composantes), la formation d'une gamme avec ses tons et demi-tons, les intervalles (l'espace qu'il y a entre deux notes), les modes (Majeur et mineur), les accords, etc.

4) L'aspect sensoriel : ressentir un rythme en le vivant, en l'expérimentant au sein d'une chanson, en marchant ou en frappant la pulsation.

5) Le chant / les lectures chantées : être capable de reproduire un échauffement vocal (en partant ensuite de différentes notes). Entendre que la note chantée est identique à celle qui est donnée au piano ou transmise vocalement. Développer la formation de l'oreille par le chant. Savoir chanter une lecture comprenant les notes et les rythmes travaillés.

L'objectif du cours est d'apprendre et d'évoluer sans aucun stress en travaillant un maximum de paramètres ! La convivialité et la bienveillance sont deux qualités auxquelles je porte le plus d'attention.

Les cours de piano et de solfège ont une durée d'une heure. Cela permet de varier les activités (ou les pièces pour l'instrument).
