    Each year, I strive to create a classroom that is welcoming, organized and nurturing. I make sure that my expectations for the classroom and my students are communicated from day one by clearly displaying the rules and consequences. During orientation, I issue a questionnaire for students and their parents that asks questions about the child's likes, dislikes, interests, challenges and motivators. I use the information I gather to stock my incentive box and create my lesson plans for the first few weeks. Getting to know my students ahead of time allows me to create a classroom where they feel seen and safe. Though establishing expectations allows my students to feel confident and comfortable in the space, I also want them to feel energized about learning. That's why I always create an engaging reading area that features an exciting theme alongside my expansive book collection.”
